White may be able to play the 3-spot for a few minutes a game, but his BEST spot is power forward. At power forward, he creates significant mismatches and yet can hold his own defensively and rebounding. At the 3-spot, he would struggle defensively against quicker players.
I think Gesell never plays a minute for the Hawks. He doesn't qualify & goes the JUCO route. Plus, May plays football & Oglesby flunks out.
You have a better chance of predicting the price of Microsoft next year than you do the minutes played by the players. There are just too many variables.
I think way too many people are over estimating Gesell. Not to say that he won't be a good player. But, even if he is the scond coming of Ronnie Lester, people are setting themselves up for disappointment.
There is a tremendous difference between a Nebraska high school season & the grind of an 18-game Big Ten schedule. Don't give me that AAU manure, either. Like the PTL, defense is non-existent in AAU ball. Because of the nature of their high school competition, Clemmons & Ingram probably are better prepared to handle the grind of a Big Ten season. The fact that White faced teams with Division I talent on them most nights, helped him tremendously this year.
I think at the beginning of the season we go with:
G-Gesell
G-Oglesby
G-Marble
F-White
F-McCabe
1- Gesell-23, Clemmons 10, Marble 7
2- Oglesby-20, Marble-15, Ingram-5
3- White-20, Oglesby 10, May- 5, Marble-5
4- McCabe-15, Basabe-10, Meyer-10, White 5
5- Woodbury-20, McCabe 8, Meyer 8, Basabe 4
Olaseni redshirts.
White he can be a 3 on offense and a 4 on defense and will more than likely start the game listed as a 3,
Let's assume for a minute that White can defend most 3's. Herby, do you think it's a great idea to have your best defensive rebounder on the perimeter?i see Marble as the one to take on the role of guarding the other teams top scorer, and White will guard 3's as well, every 3 in the league is not this magical speed demon you claim. other than OSU and MSU i have not seen any of the super quick speedsters that are supposed to be able to run circles around White
you are the one, making up things that are just not there

Also, one of the biggest strengths of White is his ability to beat his big man opponent down the floor in the transition game. The opposing power forward might not be as aggressive in trying for offensive rebounds when he has to worry about chasing down White. This siginficant advantage is lost somewhat when White is at small forward.
That team gets pwned on the reg.
Then you are saying the Iowa will get pwned on the reg.
It really matters very little who starts....Woodbury will probably force his way into the lineup (maybe even from day one). The team will be much deeper than this year. Fran has even more options now, and if a starter isn't producing, then Fran will replace him.
What? So who is going to guard the other teams 3/small forward when Iowa is on defense?Ill go ahead and state the obvious, you don't know what your talking about.White he can be a 3 on offense and a 4 on defense and will more than likely start the game listed as a 3,

You clearly don't understand what a "3" is.
You though Jon Shurna was a 3.
Most college basketball teams 3 is a guard type player.
Iowa may be able to go zone and make it work sometimes to have White, Woodbury and Basabe on the floor together. Basabe is actually probably quicker than White latterly.
