Postponed?

I don't see how this game can be rescheduled as an Away game at IU and be fair to Iowa. If you look at Iowa's remaining game dates, you can't fit it in in less than a 2 day turn around. To make Iowa travel back to IU to play a game and then force them to play a 2nd game, either home or away, less than 48 hours later is not fair. That hasn't happened once to any team this B1G season. This game should be a forfeit. Iowa showed up ready to play and IU has substandard equipment that is not in compliance with codes. It is their fault the game couldn't be played. But, of course, this won't happen because, well, every other B1G team (the states of Michigan, Ohio and Wusc would lead the charge) of saying you can't just give Iowa a win. Well, tough chit. It wasn't Iowa's fault and to force Iowa to play a game with timing that would be detrimental is wholly unfair. So, as you probably are aware, that is exactly what will happen. Iowa will get screwed in this deal, somehow.

They might have to play at Carver because the entire structure of the arena has to be examined and who knows what other damage there is. It will take a long time, I would imagine, to restore the arena to be completely safe. It should take a long time to complete. If one section is that weak, the rest of the arena has to be considered unsafe.....

The timing is really going to be a problem for the Hawks. The game has to be played before the Big Tournament. I doubt it can be played in Bloomington before the restoration is ccomplete. Wisconsin is 4 days away. They should play it in Carver tomorrow night. That would give us three days before the Badgers. It was very good to have 4 days to prepare for the Badgers, but that might not happen. THat is the only time that would be fair. It was a bonus to have four days between Minnesota and Purdue. There are 5 days between Purdue and Michigan State. That is probably when they will reschedule which will certainly not help winning at Lansing. And after the MSU game two days later we play Illinois at Carver to finish the regular season.....

To be fair to the Hawks, tomorrow is the best time. Having to travel to Bloomington then to East Lansing two days later followed by Illinois in two days really puts the Hawks in an unfair situation.....

Haven't read all the posts yet, so I don't know if anyone else has brought up this point.....

Arvada is correct, it should be a forfeit. In my opinion it should be played tomorrow at Carver to be completely fair. I am not certain that I remember a forfeit game in the Big, at least involving the Hawks. For some reason I don't see the powers that be arranging a forfeit. Tough luck, Lads, you will have to play the game when we say, no matter when the next game is or where it is located....

This is rather unfortunate.....

The only good thing about it is the players might be more healthy, despite the travel time.....

Assembly Hall press conference

IU fans taking Iowa's side...a lot of them. Saying it's not fair for Iowa to have to squeeze in a road game since they have a full schedule and are vying for a top 4 seed in the tournament. Stating Indy makes the most sense, and Iowa has the right to stand their ground and request it to be played at Carver since IU was against a compromise. Wow. Kind of surprised.

Glass, more on why they turned down the Pacers' offer to play at BLF: "The feeling was, on a 24-hour, 48-hour turnaround, that didn't make sense. Iowa was open" to the idea, he says.
If Iowa was open to playing at Banker's life, why in the world isn't Indiana okay with that? How hard can it be to bus our team up there tomorrow? I would much rather play it in Indy than going to Iowa. Don't leave it up to the conference or we're not going to like their solution.

Looking at Iowa's schedule, I don't see how you squeeze in a game after tomorrow and make it fair to them.

Looking at IU and Iowa's schedules about the only dates that'd work would be tomorrow or Thursday. Or possibly next Thursday. They should have just bit the bullet and went to Indy tonite.
Go Hoosiers!!!

Iowa has a packed schedule and they are competing for a Top 4 NCAA seed. It is totally ridiculous to expect them to play 3 games next week, including making a trip back to Bloomington. If I were the Hawks, I would stand my ground and the commissioners office may just award them a home game. IU not agreeing to play at Banker's Life is ridiculous.

That makes no sense! If one part of the arena is structurally weak, how can they know no other part is as well? None of these guys on twitter know ehat the heck is going on. All i know is that any insurance company is going to require a complete structural review before allowing people inside that arena....

This comes from the press conference.

FWIW, there may not be much insurance coverage involved. Indiana may self-insure (or retain) this exposure, at least up to a fairly high amount.

The Indiana Pacers offered their facility for tomorrow night and IU declined. If I am Gary Barta I do not accept anything other than a game at Carver. If IU doesnt agree than it is up to the Big Ten to decide.

Is there a link to this? Sorry, I haven't seen one in the thread so far.

If it is true that the IU fans are siding with Iowa fans in play at CHA, that shows they really are level headed. It would be tough to feel that way against your team unless you were a BASKETBALL fan. I commend them for the stance.

The AD said this at the 6:00 press conference covered on BTN.

Also its not really structural issue, it was metal flashing (think of crown molding). My guess is the glue failed from the temperature/mositure change.

Thank you

It would take some guts to call a forfeit and I doubt that has any chance. But who knows anymore. If there's any chance without making it bad for either team, they'll do it

How about a neutral site....say.....AT&T stadium....that'll give us an edge when we make the final four.

And here lies the problem. This late in the season, the make up game is going to present a quick turn around for one or both teams. Both will try to get the best case for their teams during the 72 hour window but with Iowa being the road team that puts them at the disadvantage of having to do the traveling.

I think Indiana has a game on Wed, March 5 which means a Tue, March 4 makeup day is not a possibility. With the MSU game on the 7th that is good news for Iowa. Regardless they're going to have a quick turn around but at least it won't be immediately prior to that game.

Not a structural issue....lulz

This game will be played a week from tomorrow at Assembly Hall is my guess. Make no bones about it, if assembly hall is sound structurally, which it appears to be, then the game will be played there. And if Iowa has already left, then we will be coming back next Thursday after playing in minny on Tuesday. Not ideal but suck it up and go get one Saturday against Wisconsin.

It's complete BS if Iowa is forced to travel back to Bloomington in a week where they are already playing two other games. Clearly I'm biased, but if they are gonna play at one of the two schools arenas than it should be at Carver. The most fair thing to do would be make it at a neutral site. Iowa should not have to travel back to Bloomington because their facility wasn't ready for the originally scheduled game which the Hawks already traveled there for.

With that said, if a neutral site is established I hope us Hawk fans show up and support. Depending on where it's at I would consider making the trip.
