Post-Spring Position Analysis Series - QB

I don't think they determine medical redshirts until a player reaches what would be the end of his eligibility. At that point, they can apply for the extra year.

Interesting to see if Labas is still in Iowa City after the semester ends.
Not a good sign for him to be leap frogged by 2 dudes that haven't been on campus a few months. Would like to think he'll see the writing on the wall and hop in the portal. I'd be ok with that. It'll bump up Lainez up a spot day 1 for him this summer.

Jump in the portal so he can be third string somewhere else? Where is he going to go where he won't be at the bottom of the depth chart going into a Fall camp in a completely different system? I guess he could go to Briar Cliff or the like if he is looking for minutes, but if he wants to play for a school that puts more than 2,000 people in the stand for home games, he is better off sticking and fighting for that back-up role at Iowa, especially given a starting QB coming off a fairly serious injury. The late Spring portal is not a great option for QBs. Maybe other positions, but not a QB who wants a shot at starting.

He could end up at a school like Western Illinois or Western Michigan or something.

I am actually wondering how real this Labas demotion is. Deacon Hill was on his way to Fordum when Iowa snatched him up. I mean is Deacon Hill really any good at all?

Hey, maybe there is a spot open at Fordum if Labas is looking for a starting job somewhere.

That could be true and likely. Not sure how guys like him look at it. Carson May went down to a small ass school didn't he? With the hopes of transfering back up again somewhere I'm sure. Granted he's younger then Labas and Labas's clock is ticking.

What we don't know is how influential are the Iowa coaches when it comes to pushing out guys they swing and miss on and don't want? For those counting at home BF has now swung and missed on Petras Padilla Labas and May.... I mean holy smokes fellas. He's hoping to hit a HR with a transfer he didn't recruit/develop or anything to run his show and bail his ass out.

What OC out there has had as bad of an O he's had and struck out on the last 4 qbs he's had and kept his job?

Maybe this is better for another thread, but I just saw that Michigan WR AJ Henning has entered the portal. He is only 5'10" and never did much as a WR, but was a great punt and kickoff returner for michigan. Maybe Cade can put in a call to his old team-mate and convince him to come on over. You have to figure he would have a good chance to crack the 2-deeps at WR at Iowa.

I saw this story today and wondered the same thing.

Lol.

Tyler Weigers
Ryan Boyle
Peyton Mansell
Tom Herion

All were buried on the Iowa depth chart and left to be FCS D-1 starters.

Not everybody cares about playing in front of “2,000 people.” Some guys want to actually play instead of sit the bench for 5 years.
