Post game presser

This is why I will always like a coach with the demeanor (I'm not talking about wanting them in general, but rather the even-keeled coaching style they bring) of Ferentz or Hoiberg over coaches like Fran or Rhodes.

Izzo and Ryan get pretty animated. So do John Calipari and Rick Pitino for that matter.

I like a coach that recruits and develops and instructs his players well.

I dont buy the Fran caused the team to melt down thing either. What does Fran being an *** to the media in a press conference have to do with anything?

Not buying it, makes no sense.

That doesn't make them play stupid defense, and not be able to finish shots at the rim.

The coaches should have made some adjustments on defense in the first half instead of waiting until the second half.

I was very wrong after the Minny game when I said shooting 43% won't win many games. If we would have shot 43% against nw, we would have won by double digits.

32% with a lot of open looks. I can somewhat get behind people being mad about Fran not recruiting better shooters...or maybe not developing shooters. Beyond that, no amount of x's and o's make up for 32% shooting.

I think some of this is on Fran, the inconsistent play, losing to bottom feeders, the feeble offense at times. He's definitely an improvement over our previous coach and has brought the program back to at least respectability. The big question is can he bring the program up to an even higher level than that? I'm not sure he can. I think he's an OK coach, but not even close to being in the same league as the upper echelon of coaches in the Big Ten. Izzo, Bo, Matta, maybe even Beilein; he's not the coach those guys are. He's also not shown himself to be a great recruiter. The last 6 games will be telling; they need to win at least 4 of them in my opinion. Losing to NW yesterday was a real kick in the nuts, really bad loss.

For the second year in a row, this team is playing not to lose. It's like they see the light at the end of the tunnel with the "easy" schedule, and they pee down their legs. The look afraid to shoot, and afraid to make a mistake. Is that on Fran? I don't know, but these are his players, so we either have a big recruiting problem, or a big coaching problem. Either way, it's Fran's problem.

It's not a complete season until Fran has manufactured a crisis out of thin air to distract a team with momentum into an epic meltdown.

He's the most mentally weak coach I've ever seen...

I thought Fran's snapping at the press after eyepokegate created a negative vibe for the team and maybe took the wind out of their sails after two big wins. Now this. I'm a big believer in the power of positive thinking and Fran ain't doing that. Get over it Fran and soon.

They don't have the talent.

.

They dont have great talent, but they have enough. Players arent in the right spots. How many ******* years are we going to watch Aaron White dribble around the perimeter. His *** should never leave the paint with his limited offensive game. He needs to crash the offensive glass every time and get putbacks, get to the line, etc........Uthoff is a really good player, but against that zone why not have him at the high post all the time? White cant ******* shoot or penetrate so leave him on the baseline. Uthoff can knock that 15 footer down consistently and teams have to respect that opening up room for White on the baseline. White catching it at the high post is absolutely worthless, then you have Woodbury on the baseline who cant finish either.

I agree with you but I would like a coach who can get the players fired up for a game.

If Fran's 1 or 2 minutes total of snapping at the media created a negative vibe with this team, that is proof positive of the mental weakness of these guys.

If fran saying "ask an intelligent question" and "because I said so" in coversational volume ss so-called reaming of the the media or going on a rant then it's evidence of the pussification of Americans.

Putting blame of two losses because of a franstraction is ridiculous.

This team was inconsistent to begin with. Consecutive wins is not a "streak" nor is it indicative of overcoming the character trait of inconsistency.

Woody's eyepoke is more likely the reason for his timid play.

Fran has faults with dome decision-making. Player energy is not primarily on him.

I didn't see the game but sound like good points.

In Rick Brown's column today, Fran is quoted as saying he thought Woodbury was playing well and he was doing everything right against the zone. And it's easy to look back now and talk about not finishing plays and missing free throws. I paraphrase. ????

Woodbury has always had trouble finishing and is a career 60% FT shooter. Worse this year = 58%.

So Fran's last comments are kind of baffling. What did he expect from Adam in that situation. ??

This was all in response to a reporter's question as to why Oleseni didn't play more, I believe.

I am still wondering why Clemons didn't play more against Minny. He was playing well and Gesell was not. Really bad that day.

Good points.

That question has been askex of Fran a lot over the past few yesrs...."Why didn't ----------- get more playing time?"

In the past the answer has been, "you're right. He should have plsyed more. I need to do a better job of that.

But to say Woody was playing well to keep Gabe on bench (same with Jok -JO)? That's beyond baffling.

The single biggest issue this team has is the same exact issue Fran's teams have had for several years. They are inconsistent. They have no mental toughness. They are a Jekyl and Hyde team.

The similarities between what we've seen with the Iowa football team and the Iowa basketball team are incredibly frustrating. Both teams surprise the fan base one game by playing really well, and then the next game they look like complete dog ****. They'll play a great game and then they'll play terrible. The competition really doesn't matter. They'll compete with the best and they'll lose to the worst. It's really really difficult to watch. Being a Hawkeye fan is not any fun right now.

I would have to agree with this. Bobby knight would be a good example. I haven't seen Fran throw a chair out across the free throw line yet.

I suspect that Fran may be smelling the coffee however. He recruiting has been weak as far as big ten standards go and he has been struggling to get through a conference season with a good winning record. Maybe he is beginning to see the writing on the wall just as many on this forum are starting to.

I agree with you but I would like a coach who can get the players fired up for a game.

My college coach, Buzz Levick, always told us that it was our job to get fired up for the game and it was his job to get us to play together. If a player can't get up for a game, that's on the player.

Fran just needs to get Woody up for the big games

If Fran could get Dakich to announce all of the iowa games, I bet Woody would be able to just focus on basketball. I wouldn't put the blame on Woody for being human. I would put the blame on Dakich, Barta, the University and conference for not standing up for one of their own. It just goes to show that outside of the Iowa basketball team itself, its just all about $$$$$ and self interest. A basketball announcer accusing a player of deliberately trying to hurt another player on national television should at least lead to a disciplining or termination of his employment.
