Post game cop rant...

Just had to get this off my chest. We stuck around after the game as usual to sit outside the RV and watch the ISU game. And as usual we were going to grill dinner before leaving. We ate a late breakfast so we weren't in a hurry to cook dinner. At 4:15 we started getting the grill ready and the food out of the fridge and a cop rolled by and told us to pack up. I questioned him on the matter, and told him the last I knew after an 11:00 kickoff you had to stop drinking after two hours and stop tailgating after three. He asked where I heard that from and I told him it was the rules as far as I had known. He told us to pack up anyway. So on the way home my dad pointed out that he had the "rule book" in the drawer that they sent with the season tickets, and sure enough in fine print it confirmed what I had already known. I was livid. I wish I had of known we had that book when that pig came around. I would have made him read it to me word for word.

You're right to be mad. Little p1sses me off more than a cop that doesn't know the rules/laws and in lieu of said knowledge tries to make up for it by being a dick.

Look, I have no issues with following the rules, and the fact they have to enforce them. My issue is if you are going to bring in cops from surrounding districts make sure they know the rules on the books. We didn't get the chance to cook dinner today. Was it a life or death situation? No. But when you have things planned out it becomes an inconvenience. I just got home 30 minutes ago and the last thing I ate was the breakfast I had at 9:00.

It seems like the Iowa City/Campus law enforcement 'establishment' is doing everything they can to take the fun out of Iowa City. No way stuff like this and all the MCs happens in Madison.

The UI is just trying to ruin the entire tailgating atmosphere. It is clear what their agenda has been for years, and this postgame tailgating limit is the dumbest thing that anyone ever came up.

Complaining about a cop not knowing the rules is just stupid, as the fault lies not with those enforcing the regulations, but with the regulations themselves. Your real complaint here should be with Barta and Mason.

If I didn't have a reserved spot off of UI property, I would never attend a game again.

You have a good beef HFN..... or maybe that is what you were going to have. Anyway, you will know next time Deputy Fife comes around. They are just trying to do their job, but they need to know what that job is.... 'specially when you pay the big bucks!:)

the U needs to be careful with how much they destroy tailgating. they may be overestimating how much people truly care about the football games.

If you see him again after the Michigan, I would throw that book at him and tell him to read the rules before he tries to enforce them.

By the way.... we lost our tailgate spot this week. Right outside the northwest corner of the stadium.... where the big Hawkeye semi parks! Construction is starting

Wrong. He was trying to stay within the rules Barta and Mason set but those enforcing the rules didn't know what they were. If the cop knew the rules, wouldn't have been a problem. Doesn't matter if you don't like the rules in this case, the problem was the cop.

You're probably lucky you didn't pull out that rule book. Dude would have probably planted some drugs on you and hauled you off to jail.

Silly

Come on Normie...if you throw the book at him, you'll end up with free housing for the night, courtesy of Johnson County...congratulate him on his keen insight to clear terrorists from Finkbine...then cut off his head and yell, "Allahu Akbar."

Unfortunately, even if you would have had the rules, he would still have told you to leave claiming you were being disruptive. And if you didn't ... boom, Disorderly Conduct and arrest. The cops at the games are free to make up whatever rules they want and there isn't anything any of us can do about. I had a similar experience and the cop pretty much told me I could either choose to leave like he asked or I could be right in the back of the car awaiting my Disorderly Conduct charge that he knew I would beat. The threat was the inconvenience of the arrest. I have little respect for these guys.

In the smart phone age, any time a police officer approaches you should attempt to discreetly record the conversation, if at all possible.

Sneak attack. I like it.
