Post game cop rant...

There's a good way to get your *** kicked and arrested. Cops do not like being taped.

That's why you do it discreetly, if possible.

Edit: I also intended to imply that it should be an audio recording. That way you can keep it in your pocket. Edit 2: Also, it isn't legal to record someone without their consent in every state, so know your laws.

Rules are rules, I accept them because we choose to park in a university lot. I have no issues there. If the cops are going to endorse the rules, I would just request they actually know them.

You all seem to be assuming the cop didn't know the law. I wouldn't be so quick to accept that premise. I think he was probing to see if Hawkfromnorwalk would be able to effectively challenge his DB maneuver.

I also am not sure the aim of the rule is to reduce enjoyment, as much as to reduce freedom. I think the police in matters like this are willing accomplices.

I used to be pretty supportive of police, until I got to know some. Drawn to begin with into a profession that has the guns, the power, and privilege is a temptation too hard to resist, it seems.

er... yeah, police are just doing their job. Wait, that's alarming too.

er... go Hawks!

the U needs to be careful with how much they destroy tailgating. they may be overestimating how much people truly care about the football games.

If the number of tickets purchased dwindles I'm sure they will adjust. Pretty easy to track.

Wrong. He was trying to stay within the rules Barta and Mason set but those enforcing the rules didn't know what they were. If the cop knew the rules, wouldn't have been a problem. Doesn't matter if you don't like the rules in this case, the problem was the cop.

Epic fail.

When you make stupid rules like this you are just asking for situations like this to occur.

Frankly, I have basically no sympathy left for those that bend over and put up with this crap. If you choose to park on UI property, you reap what you sew as far as I'm concerned. Just shut up and take it.

today as we were walking inside Kinnick, a cop stopped my buddy and asked what he had in his pocket. we had only been talking in a normal conversational tone together and were sober. but the cop stops him anyone and demands to see the contents of his pocket. it was a pair of gloves.
bunch of crap

Unfortunately, even if you would have had the rules, he would still have told you to leave claiming you were being disruptive. And if you didn't ... boom, Disorderly Conduct and arrest. The cops at the games are free to make up whatever rules they want and there isn't anything any of us can do about. I had a similar experience and the cop pretty much told me I could either choose to leave like he asked or I could be right in the back of the car awaiting my Disorderly Conduct charge that he knew I would beat. The threat was the inconvenience of the arrest. I have little respect for these guys.

To wit, the response is (if sufficient witnesses and recording apparati are present and the purported charge is clearly trumped up), "If I am in the back of that car, you will have the pleasure of finding yourself in federal court as a defendant in a 42 USC 1983 suit next week. I will enjoy spending your meager savings and pension." My buddy (U of Mich law grad) knocked a guy out at his wedding (dude was talking smack about the bride) and when the cops came he tossed out all kinds of questions to determine if he was being held in a custodial interrogation, to wit, they constantly refrained "no" but they wouldn't let him leave and threatened some sort of "interference with official acts" based on his non-responses - he continued to refuse to answer questions and played the 1983 card and he was quickly sent on his way. Every citizen of this country should be afforded the opportunity to take a class in criminal procedure and Constitutional law.

As for recording cops, there is a 7th Circuit case pending right now with respect to the constitutionality of the Chicago anti-recording ordinance (I hope to God it draws Posner and his anti-big government viewpoint). Half the reason the Chicago cops have "lost" large swaths of the City is because they are operating under the assumption they are being recorded at all times (which is true in many cases) and Cook County juries are notoriously free spending when disadvantaged utes are plaintiffs against the pigs.

So you one time Dodger.... in layman's terms, are you saying clam up when questioned or cite this particular code? Proles want to know

I could barely get to my seat today. Some fat security guy standing at the top of the tunnel looking at tickets to see if I was in the right place. I said Ive had tickets 10 years in the same seats, Im good. I had to show the fat **** where the section was on the ticket to confirm so he could let me go to my seat. There was probably a line of 20 behind me that he was making wait to check tickets. Gameday experience is turning into a ******* joke at Iowa.
