Please do not rush the field

We have not rushed the field since 2008 PSU, and we should not rush the field again until after the OSU game, assuming we win, and assuming we are unbeaten at the time and it all but clinches the Big Ten title.

Rushing after 2004 Wisconsin was probably my favorite all-time rushing the field experience!

And we did it TWICE in that game! :)

We rushed the field last year (09) after beating a very sucky Michigan. We were made fun of in the press as if we weren't used to winning. I think we rushed it after beating Wisconsin close thereafter.

Your ticket entitles you to watch the game from your seat not rush the field after the game. It's a ticket to WATCH the game not PARTICPATE in it.

It is only a matter of time before something bad happens with players and fans on the field at the same time.

In an effort to one-up your use of "hogwash" I'm going to label your entire post as poppycock.

Balderdash!

Yeah, I led the 1st charge out of the north endzone in that one, and felt slightly retarded when Phil Parker grabbed my *** at midfield screaming to get the hell off the field because there was time left on the clock. The retarded feeling soon evaporated because he drug me with him over to our sideline and I got to watch the final kickoff with the team, then run back out and celebrate with them. That truly was an awesome night.

I also had the honor of saving Kyle Schlicher's life after the mayhem ensued after beating Wisky in '04 for the title. The crowd had picked him up and was bodysurfing him. When he got over to us, there was a slight opening in the sea of bodies, and he dumped right in the middle of it. Luckily, I mananged to catch him before he hit the turf and ended up getting trampled. This is why they don't want us out there, but unless you have the National Guard standing by, it's going to be pretty hard to keep 30,000 crazed Hawk fans off the field after a huge win.

Good call. I forgot that one because I did not participate. But I do remember asking my boys next to me in Section 131 WTH the ones who were rushing were doing.

I will never forget either one of these. I was standing on the goal line in front of the student section as Murray lined it up in 2008. When it went through I had thousands of students trying to trample me! So I headed up the tunnel and waited there for the final second to tick off and the players to head to the locker room. Good stuff!!!

The Wisconsin game was a ton of fun too. I remember rushing that day and seeing Ryan Bain (he was on his official visit). I stopped and looked at him and said, "how could you say no to this?! Go Hawks!" then I kept running towards midfield! :)

It was pretty cool after beating the Badgers for the Big Ten Championship in 2004.

that would have been cool ... unfortunately I was in way, way up high for that game, so instead I got some awesome pics of the rushed field

last time I rushed was as a student

me and my fat brother have talked about this quite a few times...and the only time we mention rushing the field is november 20th when we at least clinch a visit to pasadena.

rushing the field is special and should be reserved for special events

This topic has lead me to recall two memorable Hawkeye "rushing" experiences I witnessed.

1. At Minny in 2002 where we carried the goal posts out of the dome. Now that was pretty classic. I was in the upper deck and just observed that one. I'm sure many of you were there.

And 2nd best because of the few and the proud there...........

2. Basketball (I know, hard to believe we had a time in bball). AT KU when we ended their crazy long home win streak at Allen Fieldhouse with that awesome comeback. Me and about 10 other Hawk fans that were there ran onto center court to celebrate with the team. My buddy gave Mr. Davis a hug and then messed his hair all up. Davis didn't mind he was so happy. Then once everything settled down and the team headed back to the Locker Room we realized there were about 15k PO'd KU fans staring at us and not real happy we had the gall to dance on center court. The streak was real important to them. Lets just say leaving that place I was watching my back the whole time. To make it even better though, KU fans were trashing the "obnoxious" Hawkeye fans on the postgame show and a few years later my buddy happened to get to know Kent MaCausland and Kent showed him the highlight reel the players got from that game and there we were :)

It has to be significant. OSU would classify IMO. Otherwise, a BT Title ala Wisconsin in 04 Minny in 02.

How many times does this need to be said? Iowa fans rarely if ever rush the field. The fans move down to the field and celebrate with the players, unfortunately it appears the U is taking that away this season as there is definitely more security. Iowa fans have a different bond with their team...its why we have a controlled celebration with them after wins on the field.

Rushing field "good" in BIGgames (ie tOSU if clinches conference), "bad" vs reg season Big Ten foes (ie Wisc 2010, MSU 2010) unless we are unranked and they are top ten. It is a "tradition" of college football that is cool to witness, and even cooler to participate in.

I rushed my freshman year (2008) against Wisconsin and Penn State. Wisconsin was mainly because we beat a rival, I wanted to touch the trophy (I did), and I wanted to see what it felt like to stand on the turf at Kinnick.

I didn't participate in the first rush against Penn State, because after the Texas-Texas Tech game the week before, I was paying close attention to the clock. But I did rush once the clock had expired. That will be an experience that I NEVER forget!

All that said, I guess I don't have a problem with other people rushing after Wisky or MSU. But I'm not going to do it unless we clinch the Rose Bowl against OSU.

Fans did rush the field in 2004 when playing Wisky, but that was for the B10 title.

See for yourself and tell me if it was appropriate or not:

As long as no one gets hurt I'm all for people making their own judgment on when to rush the field. The celebration police can whine all they want and decide when it is appropriate for them, but what is wrong with people wanting to celebrate with their team after a good win. I rushed the field in 2004 as a student after beating Wisconsin and it was awesome. I got to touch the Big Ten Championship trophy. I didn't rush the field in 2008 against PSU because I was with my father-in-law but was happy for the people who did. Those are the moments you will remember decades from now. If people's biggest problem is that rushing the field will be frowned upon by ESPN talking heads, come on ... most of the analysts will find a way to rain on an Iowa win any way.

Yes, I will not condone running on the field during the game like the Phillie fan above...zap him. But,otherwise, I am fine with continuing the uniquely Iowa tradition of walking down the steps, hopping the fence and strolling onto the field to congratulate the Iowa players in person. I am not going to run,or rush,or touch anyone, outside of a high five with any Iowa players I happen to encounter.

As for the outside world perceptions? Screw them. Don't care. Their impressions don't amount to a hill o beans.

I was a student at the time. I couldn't see the actual trophy presentation, but I could see it on the jumbo-tron. It was, as others have said, both crazy and dangerous, but I wouldn't take it back.
