Playstation Vue Core Slim Package

One more stupid question. If I wanted the local stations on two Tv's, I will need an antenna for each TV, correct? Will a antenna work on a basement TV or will I not get a signal in the basement?

Also, anybody in the IC or North Liberty area using a antenna for local stations. If so, what is working for you, miles and if amplified or not? Are you using Mohu or Winegard?

Thank you.

Look into a tablo. It is a box you hook into your router, hook your antenna up to, and then it streams to you appleTV, Roku, or AmazonTv, etc.

Plus you can hook a hard drive up to it a dvr network tv shows

I second the Tablo idea. I have one and it does a great job with local channels. Plus having access to it from other services like Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon TV makes it worth it. I've had it for around 2 years and I'm perfectly happy with it. It is somewhat costly to set up, but it is worth it IMO.

I set it up with an hd antenna, the tablo box, and a portable hard drive in our bedroom, and then can access it from other rooms through our network. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering how well it works, it gets great reviews online. One central source for all your shows that you can then beam anywhere is the way to go for locals if you are gonna cut the cord.

Confused. So if I have 3 Tv's, would I only need to use one Roku or do I need a Roku for each TV?

Do you select which TV-Tablet-phone where it is to streamline to for viewing?

You need a Roku/Apple TV/some box for each TV. You only need one Tablo, and then each Roku you could open the Tablo app on it, and watch your local channels on that. Plus the Tablo can record TV

Ok, another question. For those of you that have it, is the connection pretty stable or do you find that you lose it and have to reconnect and enter your wireless password. If so, this could be a deal breaker with my wife and would suck.

I suppose a lot has to do with how good or new the wireless router is. Luckily, work just set me up with a current nice NetGear router.

Also, am I correct that if yyou just have the VUE, that will only DVR the cable stations and not the local? You can only DVR the local with the Tablo and hard drive?

One thing to add, Tablo charges for their guide. If you don't have the guide, it makes it very difficult to navigate and record shows. It is 4.99/mo or I think you can pay for a year at a time. I just pay the 4.99 per month because I didn't know how I would like it so I just did the month to month. I agree it is another expense, but it is worth it. It keeps them in business and I'm fine with it.

The only time I have issues is when the antenna has issues. If you have a powerful antenna, you should be fine. My antenna has a 50 mile range, and it is around 40-45 miles from the Des Moines towers. Usually it is fine.

Yes, you do have 2 separate groups (cable, local) to dvr with 2 different systems. It can be a hassle at first, but after you get used to it, you won't think about it, it is just something you have to manage like anything else.

One other thing you will run into, at least with the PS Vue, is that you have to keep in mind if your internet service goes down, you are SOL for those channels. I honestly haven't tried Tablo when the internet goes out. My internet has only gone out once or twice in the past 2 years, but when it does, you can't watch anything. Just a heads up.

Otherwise, once you set it up, I have never had to enter my user name and password. When I turn on my Amazon Fire TV, the app is there, and when I select it, it brings up your show.

Well that's good to know. I have a very stable internet provider (South Slope) and I don't recall losing the internet so not too worried about that.

So, if I choose NOT to get the Tablo, I don't get to DVR any of the local stations but would have to wait for the program to go ON DEMAND prob the next day?

That depends on the show. Some are on right after the show aired, some the next day. I just finished up my free trial and decided to keep VUE and cancel Directv. I didn't have any problems during the tourney games other than trying to figure out a new guide set up. One small annoyance was that the Vue has about a 2 minute delay for live programs. This means that I need to ignore any score updates that are pushed to my phone, and stay 2 minutes behind on twitter.

Did you start the trial based on this thread? Just curious. You can send me the first months savings from DTV to the Vue!

This product uses Kodi. Here is an article explaining what Kodi is.

http://www.techradar.com/news/kodi-the-good-the-bad-and-the-illegal

From the article.
While Kodi’s name is regularly dragged up in media reports on illegally-streamed content, Kodi software itself is not illegal to use.

However, the software can be utilized in such a way as to perform illegal activities, such as accessing live, copyright-protected sports broadcasts, or watching pirated copies of Hollywood films or the latest can’t-miss TV series without paying.

This is made possible by a number of downloadable add-ons and plug-ins, themselves enabled by the open nature of the Kodi platform. These nefarious uses have become a key draw for a number of law-flouting users, with Kodi becoming a prevalent tool for illegal activity.

Enabling and expanding these illicit applications, users and sellers are loading the software onto dedicated hardware devices known as ‘so-called Kodi boxes’. While Kodi doesn’t make any such hardware itself, these boxes have become readily available, although online retailers, including Amazon and eBay, have starting cracking down on their sale.

Such devices are illegal, and a number of arrests of individuals who were openly selling the doctored hardware have been made recently. As well as being pitched to private users, such devices have been increasingly sold to bars and clubs, granting their customers illegal access to live sports action.

But, as we’ve mentioned, despite being tweaked to enable some legally questionable uses Kodi is actually perfectly legal software – software that offers plenty of impressive features.

I would say that if you are looking to watch non OTA TV and sports it would be illegal.

You don't have to get that box to get Kodi. That is the key to it all. Any yes, while it might not be legal, it is getting something you aren't paying for. These things end up always being a pain in the ass unless you are really tech savvy. Updates are release, you have to wait for new code, it is more hassle than it is worth IMO. Plus bottom line is it is stealing, you are taking something that the rightful owner doesn't want to just give to you for free.
