Phil Parker Recognized

At a Wendy's or a Starbucks??

Truth be told if I saw him outside of the IC area, I wouldn't know that he was him.
Just how he likes it too... That guy doesn't give two shits about being recognized and famous. He probably doesn't care all that much about rolling in money either. He just loves football.

I got to go to a coaching clinic camp thing they did maybe they still do it I'm not sure but this was like 10 yrs ago my uncle who was a HS coach at Urbandale at the time took me. We got to hear him do a clinic on coaching DBs and the fundamentals of all that goes into their footwork. He's one of those guys that what you see is who he is.

I just remember we couldn't see both him and BF cause they were speaking at the same time and choosing between witch one we wanted to see wasn't that difficult... haha

I have opined in previous posts that Parker's success has partially been the result of Iowa playing in the offensively challenged West for so long, and during the BF years Iowa's offense being so bad that opponents played conservatively on offense because they did not need to score a lot of points to win. I am starting to doubt my own hypothesis. Iowa's defense so far this year, even with the losses to graduation, has been pretty damn salty. This has been his best coaching job yet, IMHO.

That said, these next 4 games will go a long ways to showing whether Parker's success is partially a product of the system he is in, or if he truly is one of the best DCs in the nation. 3 of the 4 opponents remaining have appreciable fire-power at QB and offensively as a whole. They all pass well, and they all score points. If Phil can subdue these 4 opponents, as he has this season so far, any doubts as to his greatness will be erased in my mind.

The biggest way Iowa has lucked out with Phil Parker isn't how good he is, it's that he's never wanted to be a HC or go to the NFL. Most guys with his skill level in the job he's in have a goal of becoming a head coach and you might get them for four or five years. He's probably the last member of a dying breed.

Agreed. He was one of the rare breeds that does not test the corporate adage that everyone rises to the level of their own incompetence. He knows his skillset and that he is a force as a DC but might fail as a HC (most do). There is something to be said for stopping one level below the C-suite and being content with astounding success.
