Petras and Mansell next year

When BF first came on as the OL coach, and he started talking some smack on radio shows and twitter (think twitter was about the Kinnick experience) a lot of us thought "Oh, maybe he will loosen his dad up in regards to play calling". And there have been some changes, but I'm not sure they were due to BF but more due to a potential Lick transfer issue after the 2014 season and bowl game.

BF has shown next to nothing in regards to being this offensive genius that is just waiting in the wings to explode when KF retires. In fact when BF does take over the program, there's a very good chance it'll be exactly what the KF defenders use as their excuse "what if things get worse!!!!!"

This is the only offense and style of football he knows. Yes he learned some things at the Patriots, and how has that translated? While New England is struggling this year on offense, it's because they have one of the worst WR groups in the league....it's catching up to them. This year's Iowa team had the best group of WR in a long time, and while the stats were good compared to years past, we couldn't score points and beat anyone good.

The other issue with BF is that he doesn't have his dad's political savvy. There is a reason KF never says anything, and it's so nothing ever gets thrown back at him. So far since BF has become OC he's:

Punched a hole through a press box wall
Harassed a reply official during halftime in their box
Had snide comments / issues during press conferences that drew some bad press
Picked up unsportsmanlike conduct in a WIN for berating referees

If BF doesn't produce when he's coach, the above will get him run out of town quickly. Iowa nice is one of the main reasons KF has lasted as long as he has

Well said;

I do not get all the BF hate for head coach? He lives and breathes Iowa, he is more vocal and trash talks rivals, he’s young and knows how to coach the OL.

So if he is a bad coordinator does this mean he won’t hire a great one when he takes over as the head guy automatically?

How many head coaches do both? Few and far between and I just don’t see BF doing it. He’s a known name, NFL, OC, playing experience, Alum and young. I think it would be a great hire.

The next coach won't get run out quickly. It has never been that way in Iowa's history and especially in the last 4 decades.

You make some points, and said "maybe learned some things at the Patriots". It's interesting that Iowa has starting TEs in the NFL, and win 9-10 games per year the last couple years. Stanley is just seen as fairly bad by many. Yet, we get to watch Iowa have a chance at ten victories, and people blame and gripe.

I'll take Iowa coaches over many in this country. Teams with great history and recruiting (Texas A and M, Texas, UCLA, Florida State, are LANGUISHING with every possible advantage. Iowa is a low population, "flyover" state with a chance to get 10 wins. Lighten up :)

I hope there's an actual competition for the starter job next year. Neither Petras nor Mansell has shown enough in games to say "yeah, that's the guy", and Hogan deserves to get a fair shot. I'd hate to see one or two guys transfer because union card.

Stanley is the epitomy of KF. Spectaculure at times. Then the spectacularly bad sequences. It baffles the mind.
