Peter Jok

He still has a lot of work to do defensively. But Jok can flat out score, I think he starts next season.

I can't argue that he's not good defensively. But when you look at who he is up against.... Josh Ogelsby who also can't guard... it should be easy for Peter to win the starting spot as his offense game has so much more upside than Josh. In fact, his defense does too, he just needs to continue to work on improving his D.

His problem is mental and learning the game from a defensive perspective. Josh's issue is foot speed.

One you can correct/improve... one you pretty much got what ya got.

He's going to be the next RDM. Great to see him end the year on a good note

No, different players. Jok's a much better shooter, but won't have the handles and dribble drive ability nor will he have the defensive ability of RDM (not that RDM was outstanding on D).

Looks like Jok's gotten physically stronger since November which is also good.

One thing Fran's teams have never done is shoot a lot of 3 pointers, we could potentially have a very good 3 point shooting team next year and I hope we see a much higher percentage of our shots come from there next year. I just have a feeling that Ellingson is going to end up getting minutes next year and surprising a lot of people too.

he didn't play much during the season because last night was his best defensive game of the year

(which means he was low and moving a lot, although still confused and gave up a couple of easy looks: he was giving up as much as he was taking. if he can get even with josh defensively, he'll be a plus player.)

This. I'll be the first to admit that I hadn't been really impressed with Jok this year. That said, I saw alot out of him last night that made me think otherwise. While he had a great game offensively last night, he still looked lost defensively. The scoring was huge for us but at the same time we needed defense as much if not more late in the game and I simply don't think he's there defensively yet. That said I think he'll develop nicely over the years and become the player many of us, myself excluded, thought he would be from the moment he signed.

I think you're going to be happily surprised being wrong on that note. Defense, you will probably be correct. I think Jok has the capability to be good on D though. A lot of it seems to be mental.

He wasn't shy about taking the big 3 at the end. Make it and you're a hero. Miss it and you're just an arrogant freshman. I wonder what Fran thought of that shot. It didn't seem like it was the shot for which the play was designed. This may be more indicative of the issue than anything.

Sophomore Savior!

You guys realize, Tenn only wanted to stop one player... RDM. He was their only concern, which is why Jok was wide open most of the night. You also only seem to remember his early threes but are forgetting his clanked-three down the stretch.

Agree he is actually very good with the ball and can attack...defensively marble wasn't good he picked when to play hard on defense where as how hard jok plays on defense isn't what he lacks. So I think he will be a better defender than marble because he has all the tools that marble does but seems to work harder at it. He just needs the iq part of defense.

Correct. Pete has all of the physical tools to be a solid defender, but he doesn't have that "freakish athletic ability" to be able to recover when he is out of position because he's still learning how to correctly play defense. I think you will see big strides on the defensive end by next year. From an offensive perspective you'll also see that he can get to the rim as well as having a very good mid-range game.

People want to compare Pete and Josh from an offensive perspective, but honestly their games are very different. JO is much more of a spot up / catch and shoot guy (absolutely nothing wrong with that either if we can get guys who can penetrate and dish or actually develop an inside-out game with our bigs).

I think that Pete needs to start over Josh just for the reason that it stresses the defense with his ability to put it on the floor and get to the rim, which he did do in some early season action. He even had a one dribble pull-up that looked really nice so you know they have been working on that with him in order to create separation. I could even see the time when they both play together with Pete at the 3 and Josh at the 2.

pete and josh in at the same time weakens the defense too much

(unless pete becomes kenyon murray's uchi-deshi during the off season)

I could see this happening in the non-conference but not likely in the B10 slate. Mostly due to the fact we would be too small of a lineup like that. Would be interesting if Atwood decides to come and have a lineup of Dickerson, Jok, Uthoff, Atwood and Olaseni. You could even trade out Uthoff for White and still have a lot of speed and the ability to stretch out the D.

If Fran gives jok the same long leash as Marble had, he will be the guy who replaces Marble's offense. Probably at a more efficient rate too. The guy has the ability and the desire to get a shot up whenever he wants.

I do worry about him getting injured again though. It will be interesting to see how durable he is when he is playing a larger load of minutes.

I don't know if he will develop into a guy who can break down the other teams best perimeter defender.

I think he can be one heck of a shooter.
