Penn State Said to Be Planning Paterno’s Exit

The only remaining issues right now likely are severance numbers, absolution of culpability in failure to adequately address the complaints, and, on another front, the future of the university president. Both could be gone by the end of the week, if not sooner.

It must be quite a sight, though, to see Joe Paterno and Graham Spanier trying to toss each other under the bus. They're both going to be wearing tread marks.

That's why the presser has been cancelled. Ironic, how this would probably have been his last PC before his last home game anyway.

I don't feel bad for him at all, this should never have come to this, had he acted like a human being.

As others on here have posted...I will never think of PSU in the same light again.

unfortunate that his career couldn't have ended with better circumstances

It could have, if only Joe Pa did the right thing as soon as he learned about what was going on. I don't feel sorry for Joe Pa at all, he deserves what he is getting.....

bottom line, just a sad state of affairs for everyone involved. as an ostrich learns, just because you bury your head in the ground, does not make things go away.

This is why they canceled the press conference. They were afraid he would say something that would violate his code of conduct in his contract to where he would not get severance.

They are still protecting their icon.

Unfortunate that he could have prevented the raping of little boys had he done what any normal human being should have known to do.

Paterno is a great football coach, obviously historic, but there are consequences in life.

Lets face it, if this wasn't Paterno, he would have been tossed already and not had the chance to "plan an exit".

This is a human tragedy of epic proportions.

As someone not so elequently stated, this will probably kill JoePa. Sandusky is either going to off himself, or get murdered in jail. The careers of the AD and VP are done, and they are going to jail, and the President will never work in higher education again in any kind of meaningful way.

Then you have the (now) 9 kids. The real victims.

We're put on this earth for a finite amount of time, and no one knows what happens when we're gone. So our entire lives, everything we do, is done for two reasons: To provide happiness to you and yours while you're here, and to make a lasting impact and to be remembered for something great.

You couldn't have created a Hollywood drama in your head as heartbreaking as this story is in reality.

Paterno should have left when the school President advised him to in 2004. After all that has happened one wonders if this request was football related or not.

Not to be insensitive a lot of this goes waaaaay beyond football....... does anyone think that McQueary/Paterno will be on the sidelines this weekend?
