The Upside Down

UCLA might be a better team than their record. They have losses to really good teams.

How long has UCLA been running their offense. I'm under the impression that the offense is new this year.

It is. Eric Bieniemy is the new OC. And, yes, this is a tricky game to be sure.
Thanks. I read a couple articles about the UCLA offense. They left a distinct impression that Bieniemy was new this year, but didn't state it outright. I took it as a given, that he was new this year.

He was the OC for the Chiefs that people thought should get an NFL HC job. He has had some legal problems in the past and it was thought that that, along with the fact that Reid is the playcaller and basically in charge of that offense are what kept him from getting a job. He left KC last year and went to Washington to get out of Reid's shadow and it was a disaster. Hopefully that continues Friday.

EB got one year with this offense https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/was/2023.htm Jayden Daniels is a tad better than Sam Howell.

He's overqualified for the job he has, but, you know, the NFL frowns on legal issues.

I went looking for Ethan Garbers passing efficiency at 138.45 and found Spencer Patras right in the neighborhood 140.08

Ethan Garbers 7games 141/216 10TD 9int 1703yards
Spencer Patras 6games 161/245 13TD 7int 1825yards

If Spencer wanted to spend his senior year slinging the ball around with reckless abandon, he found his spot. He's even got 28 positive rushing yards on the year. (The score doesn't seem to be bothering him much. Apparently, the Aggies don't play defense.)

Happy as heck for Spencer even though his team is BAD
I had to go take a look at a few highlight clips to see how they played Spencer. It appears to all be shotgun run/pass read with a single back beside him, TE & WRs spread wide. He claps his hands, reads the routs and who is coming through the line, and acts accordingly. He's far enough back that the o-line only needs to slow rushers down. (only 7 sacks) He seems to be getting a few carries when coverage drops (24 carries for 28 total yards and 1TD, long of 12) If he finishes the season with positive rushing yardage they should give him a trophy for unlikely feats.

On the other side of the ball, the Aggies defense is astoundingly BAD.

I wish him the best. He broke Goff's HS records.
