Penn St Audibles board is whacked

Shy of starting a new thread on the topic, I am curious to know if this is as heavily a debated subject on every other board for other schools besides us and PSU? I know it is topical on ESPN, But like what are they saying at mishitigan, usc, oklahoma, florida and the SEC?

Truth hurts.

You make a valid point, but what has happened at Iowa doesn't even compare to say what happened at FSU under Bowden. Bowden has his opinions on the Paterno subject, but didn't have too much to say other than: "we are gathering information" when he had multiple players being charged and convicted of crimes of a sexual nature every season. I guess when it is against women and not boys, it is okay.

We are talking about society as a whole though. Players get plea deals all the time when it is crimes against women and people tend to just look the other way...heck the University of Iowa pretty much did with Pierre Pierce. The player gets their "sentence" and life goes on.

trapper I was initially bothered by Ui's apparent withholding of info but as I read more it seams to be purely in order to stay compliant with federal regulations.

The Everson Satterfield issue wasn't handled perfectly but they got booted from the program and brought into the justice system in short order.
Boy, you are really delusional. You think PSU kept the access to their records sealed for their own selfish reasons. Meanwhile, Iowa does it solely to abide by the law. Keep on living the dream. They ALL want their records under wraps for their own selfish reasons. Some of them just happen to have more questionable reasons than others. But if Iowa had some nefarious reason to keep things quiet they certainly wouldn't be running to the public to tell them they want to volunteer access to all of the records that had previously been kept private.

Don't kid yourself. If an institution like the Catholic Church will do what. They did to cover up child sexual abuse, institutions of higher learning (just like Iowa) as most certainly CAPABLE of the same thing. It might not have happened, but it certainly could.

I do get a kick whenever people on this board think we are far superior in our morals, just because we are Iowa. Of course, the same people wouldn't probably think that about ISU, even though they are from the same state.

Keep in mind that the smart posters are probably all gone, burying their head in the sand in embarrassment. I know if something like this happened at Iowa I would be done as a Hawk fan and I doubt I would keep visiting these boards.

A good point, and hopefully true.

No doubt any school is capable of a PSU type coverup. In this case it seems Iowa has a plausible reason to withhold student information. Iowas state supreme. court sees it this way too.

Please explain what Iowa fighting the PC open records request has to do with PSU or any sort of cover up. K thankx.

I think I'd be done as a hawk fan, too (or at least until I was satisfied that the university had done everything in its power to make things right again).

Penn State is still waaaay off the mark in that department, IMHO.

The Everson/Satterfield deal was no where close to PSU but it still wasn't good for the University. There were people fired over the handling of the situation and the parent of the girl who was assaulted brought to light some serious concerns over the handling. It is right that PSU is way worse, but it shouldn't be dismissed as no big deal.

You are right, it is no where near close to PSU and it was stupid of you to bring it up.

It is no big deal anymore, Everson/Satterfield got what was coming to them and it did not take 14 years for the truth to come out. You keep making yourself look worse by bringing up this crap. Go back to your Penn State board, this kind of stuff is welcome there.

I feel sorry for you.

I feel sorry for you.

Iowa didn't conspire to cover up the crime. Ferentz acted quickly to remove them from the team. The criminal justice system dealt with the criminals in due time and with due process. The handling of these kinds of situations always leaves some parties p!ssed off, but there was no concerted conspiracy to cover up here.

These situations are not alike. I'm not saying that because I'm an Iowa grad. I'm saying it because they are not alike.
