Patriots Influence On Iowa - Interesting Read.

Now back to reality. Hawks had 11 first doens and 199 total yards of which 85 came on one play. Granted they didnt expect a small and not fast wr to do that. Neither did anyone else.
You just made his point. Props.

Its got to be frustrating to be a college football coach. You have a scheme that you'd like to put in and perfect...then the players come and go and its a non-stop battle for continuity - and at Iowa - average talent. Rarely do the coaches see the team do it as they imagine it could or should be done.

Brian has put some fresh paint on this offense. It is overdue

I never understood why a developmental program like iowa who knows they don't have the same talent as other programs, employs an offense that is easy to figure out. They insist on simply overpowering and out executing the other team. That just seems like you're not giving your less talented players good chance to be successful. Not giving yourself any way to make up for the talent gap.

I didn't know that Iowa's offensive scheme was similar to New Englands. Hmm

It may not have in the past secondary to not having players to diversify. The point is that he is looking in the future to diversify and spread the ball more, comparing to New England. In addition, they would like to just take the free 5 yrds the defense is willing to give up.

Nobody stated they have been playing to the level of New England or like New England. The entire article is about breaking down New England and having a vision for the future.

Similarity—both teams run Pro-Style offenses and defenses. Unfortunately for us, this is college, where pro style doesn’t succeed. So did-similar in success.
Also believe we put so many guys in NFL because of this similarity.

Yes it can and does. See Alabama. Also, this is a team like Iowa's biggest recruiting playing card to get decent recruits. The ability to mold/manufacture players and get them to the NFL, often times game ready and ready to contribute right away. This is Iowa's biggest selling point. Iowa camps, practices and plays like an NFL team. NFL GM's know this and seek Iowa players out many times. Hell, there were NFL scouts at Kid's day already.

Would you really want to crush one of Iowa's biggest recruiting points?

....and as you point out above, you know you are going to have years where you may be weak at certain positions so the consistency won't be there.

Good points. I don’t think Iowa’s offense is easy to figure out if it is executed correctly game day — the OC and players.

If you’re less talented then you’re chance is to execute and be disciplined.

With less-talented programs going to spread/passing game it was just a matter of time before the blue-bloods did that too;

they will dominate the spread/passing game because of the talent difference.

I agree with most this. I am SHOCKED 95% of our recruits are 3* or less. With our 20 year history of putting zero star (walk-ons) and kids with almost no P5 offers into the NFL(many of them ‘early’), I would think any 4-5 star kid that obviously wants to play in NFL, would want to go to Iowa over ANY other school.

And Alabama would succeed with almost any scheme they run, as they have ABSOLUTELY DOMINATED college recruiting during their time with Saban. I think you or me could coach them to 11 wins with the talent they have.

.

Dont assume the hawk offense can usually get a FREE 5 yards against many teams. If we had super talented and dangerous deep threats at wide receiver who could run a go then stop route and super slot route running receivers then maybe you can get that easy 5 yards especially on first down (I would never say FREE 5 yards).

Is Iowa trying to become the New England Patriots of NCAA football? Both Ferentz's have coaching experience with Bill Belichek and Brian coached at New England, gaining experience. Who better to learn from? I found his response and explanation interesting. I think he gets it and he may actually turn out to be a damn good offense coordinator, WITH THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS!!

It sounds like the goal is to really diversify the offense, take what the defense is willing to give to you and detach from your emotions. I think the guy is getting it. I think the future looks bright, IMO.

Obviously the Hawkeyes have not been similar to the Patriots over the years, but I like the vision of playing their philosophy and how he broke down their game. This is Brian's only what like 3rd season? I think the key is him finally getting the correct players to diversify the offense and not rely on just 1 or 2 players, such as Wadley and Hockenson or Fant. I think we will see this philosophy more this year. Add into that a fullback as well.

i haven't read beyond this post and the first sentence. if iowa IS trying to become the NEP's of NCAA, they'd better start not being obvious on offense, start game planning for each opponent and start winning a whole lot more games.

Yes, third season. I think he’s on an upward trajectory. Only time will tell how extreme that trajectory is. It all rests on the quarterback, though, as Iowa’s offense, and that of the entire league, always has.

i hope the trajectory is upward. in his first two seasons as OC, we're 9-9 in conference play. and keep in mind, KOK is still brian's training wheels. brian hasn't even been the "only" OC the entire time he's been "the" OC. i don't think we should pretend we are becoming the NEP's of NCAA when wins/losses and championships do not reflect that at all.

I am not assuming. I am merely pointing out the point in the article when they broke down the Pats game and the Pats noticed they opposing team was sagging off so much pretty much giving them 5 yds. Obviously, a team is not going to get a sure 5 yds every play as they'd just march down the field and never have punt.

Can't take things so literal.

You really need to read it. Not fair to the OP!! ;)
