Painter made a stupid move today

Matt has no reason to explain anything to his opponents. At this level it is up to the opposing team to play the game and take what happens. If you were to ask Lick he would laugh at you and be embarrassed someone is even asking that question. This isn't Jr. High basketball where we play the kids and try to be nice. This is how far Iowa basketball has slipped, we are discussing the opposition running the score up on us...pitiful. Headline should be...Lickliter refuses to change again...

1. What changes could Lickliter have made that would have worked yesterday?

2. Define worked.

Painter towards the end of the game was orchestrating a practice with his starters. Notice the 3 man weave at the top of the key. Which resulted in a wide open shot at the Free Throw line. It was a basic clinic.

Painter also wasn't very happy with his starters. They got lazy around the 8 minute mark and where stuck at 56 until about the 4 minute mark. Painter ended the game with a teaching moment.

It is up Painter to help Lickliter from looking worse than he already does.
All Iowa had to do was play some defense.
I find it interesting that Iowa fans are concerned about the well being of Purdue's players.

Purdue is a team getting ready to play tournament ball. Saturday's Iowa game was a good scrimmage for them to get some things settled.

Just to bad that Iowa could not make it a game, espcially after all the hoopla Barta gave Lickliter after the NW game. And Lickliter talkinga about how well Iowa is playing.

Yes the Emperor doesn't have any clothes. Someone should tell Barta so he could see the naked emperor.

Who cares? Players could also get hurt in practice so should they stop practicing? I have no problem with him keeping the starters in.

Plus, he probably had money on his own team -19.5

In fact, at least at our practices, the likelihood of getting hurt is a LOT greater than a game. I can guarantee you that no coach has ever gone back to the locker room after a game like that and said to his staff "Guys we were lucky one of our guys didn't get hurt tonight. Next time its a blowout, we need to do a better job of that."

Coaches and players don't think that way. Not at all. You go out and play. You may get hurt, you may not. The only people that talk about players might have gotten hurt are fans.

How many times did you see Mr. Davis keep the starters in at the end of games when we were blowing teams out? You didn't. Good coaches don't do that because a.) it's an @ss move toward the opposition's coach and b.) you risk injuring someone you need to make a deep run in the NCAA tourney.

Just because nothing bad happened doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid move.

If you steal and don't get caught, it doesn't make it ok.

Oh really Spank?

Signed,
Matt Bullard

We all know your teams were never in the position to call off the dogs anyways. ;)

This. Perfect time to try new things in a game situation. Doesn't do much good to have your scrubs in there practicing things when they won't be playing much in the tourney just to make Iowa feel better. What if one of his scrubs crashed into the bench diving for a loose ball and injured one of the starters?
