Owen Freeman

Saw the below on X from Jon Rothstein.

Are we supposed to be for or against these guys that bailed on us?

Creighton's Owen Freeman (knee) will likely not be fully cleared for another six weeks and will miss the official start of practice in late-September, per Greg McDermott.

Transfer from Iowa who averaged 16.7 PPG and 6.7 RPG last season.

Significant Big East News.

Not for or against really, but maybe relief that a bunch of NIL $ didn’t go for a possible bad knee before the season begins. I mean, that can happen, and I feel for the dude, but (selfishly stated I guess), better someone that bailed on us than one of our players. We have already had our share of bad luck the past few years……..

This is an easier call for me as I went to Creighton and they are my second team, so I will have no problem cheering for Josh and Owen this winter. That Sanford kid is dead to me.

In all seriousness, there was a coaching change and the man that brought them to Iowa was fired. I don't blame them for looking around and also cashing in on the talent that they demonstrated. Every one of us would have at least looked at the options available and most of us would have transferred if it were a much better fit playing wise and financially.

I have been a Creighton fan since Paul Silas played for them

They have been rather successful lately in the Big East

A full healthy season might not be in the works for Owen

Hope he remains healthy

It's All Good, Lads

Looking forward for the Albany game at 5 on Fox Saturday

I see it the same way the players do. If "the grass is greener on the other side" then so's my fandom once they leave. Not wishing them ill will by any means but if they can turn their backs on me as an Iowa fan (which I honestly don't blame them one bit), then we can do the very same thing to them. That said it's definitely a case by case basis as there are those buried on the depth chart that have zero chance of playing that do it for the sole reason of wanting to see the field during their limited playing days and those guys I have nothing but love for.

Yeah, I am not cheering for any of the guys that left Iowa for a bag of money. I can't blame them and I don't wish them ill or anything, but I don't give AF about what they do from here on out.

I am a Creighton observer so to say, living about 5 minutes from their stadium. I won't go see them this year, no fin way

I like this perspective, better that Creighton is paying for a bad knee than us.

Unless Iowa's playing Creighton I'm not gonna be paying much attention to him and that other guy. I just don't care enough to. Sucks he's hurt. I'd rather he just suck at basketball while healthy going forward instead.

Freeman might want to think hard about redshirting. I don't know how all the details work in these financial agreements, but I'd assume he gets most of his money even if he has to sit out the year due to a lingering injury. Frees himself up to get paid for a 5th year...and he is the exact kind of guy (good college player, not much of an NBA future) that should look to make as much money as possible while in college right now...

This is where I live. Those guys that bail puts a bad taste in my mouth and I don't wish any ill luck on them but also don't care if they succeed or not going forward. I enjoyed watching Freeman, but it just always felt like he had a shady side to him or that he was at Iowa for the wrong reason, I guess. Don't really care now.

I felt like Freeman while having a ton of upside, could not stay healthy. Seemed to be always sick or hurt. I also didn't see a ton of maturation or improvement from his freshman year. I agree, I don't see the NBA in his future. Let him get his money, and see where he goes. Best of luck to him. Much like Melrose spoke to, I don't tend to follow Hawkeyes that leave the program.

Jack Nunge was probably the exception and I felt with the death of his father, he had some valid reasons for moving closer to family. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in with NIL. Loyalty is a thing of the past.
