All setup by establishing tendencies, then on breaking them when it matters for points. Waiting for our defense to give us a short field, etc.

Against a defense like that, we're not going to get 8 min drives, eating up first downs. If you break tendencies to pick up a first down on our own 35 yard line, you'll have nothing in the playbook when your on their side of the field looking for points. Honestly, it would simply be CYA play calling by the OC and not giving the team the best chance to win. Glad BF doesn't call it that way.

I think obviously a lot of luck when into how well things went. But I'm sure BF has called similar games, and nothing went his way and everyone was asking wtf afterwards.

But amazing to see how you can score 27 points and get the win on a defense that seemingly has you otherwise outclassed.

We do this pretty well at times.

And I know it is not KF but more counter jet sweep action with ISM etc and make a concerted effort to hand them the ball to try and get some decent counter runs would help.

When Iowa ran power this year, they destroyed people. Teams run right through the reach blocking, and because Iowa doesn't combine the zone blocking with zone read an qb power, more often than not there's one more player in the hole than can be blocked on outside zone - a safety or olb on bad teams, a d lineman on good teams. It works well inside, because the play develops faster and doesn't get stretched out so the defense has less time to bring an extra guy to the hole.

I don't think we need to abandon the zone entirely, but it needs to be mixed up with the power blocking scheme.

Now this thread is titled "Outback Bowl Play Calling". Seems to me, that the OC cannot figure out how to hget his best players the ball. OR he way over thinks his game plan and tries way to hard to use his best play makers as decoys.

That would be like the Pats using Gronk as a decoy only. Which they must be doing, since our OC came from their.

1. I was very happy. I love the Hawks. Love the players. Hate the HC and OC. Love the DC.

Im tired of this boring offense. While it has shown flashes under BF, is that because KOK is back in the fold?

There is no reason, besides a sh*tty AD, that KF is still here and BF is the OC. You know that as does everyone else.

I believe that Kirk and Brian knew that MSU's defense was going to eat. So they fed them....and fed them and when the time was right....BOOM... TD.

They knew that they needed plays from the Defense...and the defense delivered. Honestly .... the plan worked....

If you watch the Stanley to Easley touchdown in the second quarter, Nate's first read was to Hock but he was double teamed. Easley was the second read and his man had bit on the play action fake and he was open behind his man.

Because our OC is an idiot. Outside of a busted coverage by their safety, our offense did nothing all day. We were blessed with a short field that set up our tds. Christ Staney completes a simple pass and people go nuts, the bar is set so low. Great game plan Brian, run into a brick wall, don't target TJ till the 4th quarter, and the play calling before the half was something not even a high school coach would have done. Totally out of touch with how the game was unfolding.
