OT: Mangino out at ISU

Yeah the contacts I've had within the 4a coaching community have shared some pretty disturbing stories about Mangino. The guy you see in front of the camera doing interviews simply isn't the same guy who closes the locker room door and coaches his players. He's got an incredible temper combined with no filter and it gets him into trouble.

When I heard this all went down this morning I have very little doubt the way it went down was probably pretty ugly. Mangino and Rhoads haven't seen eye to eye since the beginning. Plus Mangino is known the be very hard on his players. I can't even remember his name, but that offensive lineman who quit the team last year only to rejoin it a week later actually quit the team because of the way Mangino was harassing the offensive line. The whole team got lambasted after practice. The offensive line was thrown under the bus in front of everyone, and then Mangino asked them to stay after and he laid into them some more. The player stood up and said "**** this I'm done" and walked out.

It's pretty clear that program is a giant steaming pile of dung right now. Ultimately it all falls on CPR. I have no idea how he is still their head coach right now.

wins 2 more games and he is probably still their coach, especially if Lanning looks good the remaining 5 weeks. The last thing on the planet Pollard wants to do is make ANOTHER football hire.

So you get rid of a coordinator who got freaking Kansas to the Orange Bowl as a head coach, freaking Kansas, and you don't think about getting rid of Wally who can't keep teams from scoring 50 pts EVERY game. Geez, work on getting your lines and defense correct. Mangino must have had horrible bedside manner for this to happen. My choice would have been the D coordinator. That place is a train wreck.

Does anybody really believe Mangino is down in the dumps right now? He's probably happy as hell to be out of that hell-hole and down I-35 right now!

Does anyone know if Sam B Richardson is thinking about transferring?

He will have no eligibility left after this season.

He was actually a decent QB for Winter Park HS (outside Orlando). When I first saw he was going to ISU I thought, "Nice get for them". Then reality took over with, "Wow, does that mean NO Florida schools wanted him, or just the FBS schools didn't want him?"

This I agree with. It's Iowa State "logic".... welp, we're giving up 40 points a game to FBS opponents so..... time to get rid of the offensive coordinator!

Mangino isn't fat... he's embarrassing for a guy coaching D1 athletics. Combine that with his charming personality and ability to connect with players and he's top shelf stuff.

And Paul Rhoads hired him and Cyclone fans ate it up like a ******* drunk and stoned college kid at Pita Pit after the bars closed. With Mangino in charge our offense is gonna light the world on fire!!!!!!

Now of course Mangino was terrible and things are on the up and up. Seriously though... when Paul Rhoads hired him there was plenty of information available about what kind of person Mark Mangino is. None of that information was good yet he still hired him. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how that guy still has a job as a D1 football coach. Clearly he is an incompetent moron.

I was talking to some scouts after the Iowa State game and they both agreed that SBR was a better pro prospect than CJB, better arm and scary smart. He could transfer here and really take the Hawks to the next level. What has CJB ever done to earn the starting job anyway?

Seriously doubt SBR even makes it to the next level. QB is a big weakness for Iowa State. Doubt any pro scout ever saw pro potential in him.

So was this move an attempt to save Rhoad's job? I'm sure Pollard is looking for any excuse to avoid having to pay his buyout

And the predictable fat jokes are here........

Yeah because Mangino never laid his hands on players, or told them to go back to STL to get shot with their homies, or told one he'd end up an alcoholic like his dad instead of a lawyer.

Yep, better not make a fat joke about that guy cause that wouldn't be very nice.

If he treated players that bad...one can only imagine the horrors he visited upon the animal research facilities in Ames. I'm thinking there's more to this firing that than the offensive performance of ISU football.

They may not have to be concerned about the NCAA, but don't be surprised to see the Dept of Agriculture, National Pork Producers Council and PETA show up in Ames.

This could get ugly.
