OT: Kittle PI in the Super Bowl

Shanahan deserved this loss. You can’t sit on ball at end of 1H...especially against Chiefs. Then not use your most explosive weapon in the passing game...you’re in the biggest game in the world and don’t fire all your bullets?

don’t know about that. They were up 20-10 in the 2nd half with an opportunity for the kill shot and they whiffed. Going Kirk Ferentz was working until the tyreek hill catch

That was KF pre 2015 which is why they lost

Here's the thing. Was it textbook by the rulebook OPI? Maybe. Does that usually get called in a regular game? No. Does it usually get called in a super bowl? No. Did they miss a lot more egregious stuff they didn't call? Yes. So it sucks they called that. Game changing. You go into halftime with a lead rather than tied, everything changes the rest of the game. That first td you get in 3rd quarter now puts you up 2 scores, that next fg you get puts you up basically 2 tds, and its a different game. We will never know how it affected the game honestly. Having said that, as a niners fan. If Jimmy Ward doesn't do the hokey pokey and turn himself around when he had inside help and actually covers the outside which is his assignment......hill doesn't get the big bomb and niners win. So. Crappy game changing call or not. If Ward doesn't make that stupid play, or if niners two guys who had mahomes actually sack him rather than letting him go, before another big throw, they win.

No dog in the fight and didn't care who won, but the hold on Bosa on that long pass was textbook. Bosa was a damned beast out there. It was clear they were gonna "let them play" and Reid pulled a great Paul Chryst/Mark Dantonio and had his guys exploiting it.

When the Kittle play happened, I called it an an obvious push-off. Then when I saw the replay, I wasn't so sure. He already had separation, so he basically hand-checked him (with a little force). I don't know the rules well enough to know if it was PI or not.

Kittle actually had a really good game. He blocked well and drew extra attention a fair amount. If a great player draws a double and it frees up other guys to make plays, the stat sheet might not show it but it is a good game.

Yeah, teammates, coaches, players and people in the know really do know how players affect the game in so many ways. Kittle and the FB are the other TE are big in blocking in their run game. I am not sure of hardly any other teams in the NFL that use much the 2 TE and FB as the 49ers. And I remember many on this board saying the FB is dead position in the NFL which I said was crazy comment.

You are right on almost all those accounts. It is just too bad that Kittle unconsciously put out his arm and made just a slight amount of contact. I was pulling for the Chiefs but I really like the 9ers too and the way they play with tough defense and running, etc. The chiefs hadnt won in forever and only once and from Iowa I have always liked the chiefs and hated the raiders.

I was really surprised that the 9ers didnt come out and go run heavy and test KC's defensive will to stop the run which sometimes they cannot do.

You saw it as I and many did and it was a very slight contact which didnt give him any advantage as he was open by a yard and the ball was 5 feet ahead of the defender. And as others have noted Sorensen the defender had and was doing some contact.

The FB's big plays seemed to be the result of Kittle making a play or drawing attention. I don't know who that FB is. Is it still Tom Rathman?

The Saints have their 6 ft 4 inch big all purpose athlete who can play QB, TE, Hback, run the wildcat and a lot of teams are trying to find those athletes. Kelce is that type of athlete as could Kittle but.
