OT: Bo Ryan lands 2011 PG

Good, now Marcus Paige should have no reason to not come to Iowa.

I hadn't thought of that angle, Hooper. I really hope you're right, but they're in different classes, and it appears that Paige is going to have many options other than Wiscy and Iowa.

Paige seems to be quite fond of Tubby Smith and the Goophers. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up there.

Losing Paige to another Big Ten program would not be a good thing.

Not for the Hawkeyes and not for Lickliter, but seriously, if you were Marcus would you want come to the mess that is Iowa? Plus, it has been heard and said that Marcus doesn't really want to play Lick's style of basketball. A lot of kids don't like that style of ball these days, and coming to a losing program with dwindling fan support doesn't make it more attractive.

Seriously why would a player with other offers from Big 10, ACC, SEC, PAC 10, Big East (minus Depaul), Big 12 (minus Colorado, anyone else?) schools go to Iowa at this point.

What is the best selling point about going to Iowa right now? The most positive thing you could say would be, the ability to play right away. You would not have to redshirt.

It sucks for this to be the fact, but there is about zero reason for a talented player to attend Iowa at this point.

Until Lickliter is gone, we will never get another 'highly touted' player.

I think that might be a little extreme to say, but it certainly is going to be an uphill battle. Winning, facilities and getting the fans back in Carver would definitely help the cause.

Plus, I would say that both Cody and Ben are highly touted players.

I think our definitions are different.

To me, highly touted means a player that is being recruited by some of the better programs in America. Perhaps a mix of the elite and the next tier. Ranked programs.

Per the Scout database: there is not a single ranked team, or upper echelon program, that had interest in Cody Larsen. As humor would have it, New Mexico might be the best program listed. Same thing as it pertains to Ben Brust.

While I am excited they are going to be Hawks, I am not going to go around singing praises of Lickliter's ability to recruit and coach.

Marcus Paige would be considered 'highly touted'. He is already being reported as on the Kansas radar.

If Lickliter didn't sign Brust early, the elite schools would be on him. Coach did a great job of wrapping up his 4 guys before they started blowing up. Next year's class is a foundation class.

He won't get credit for it but Lick has shown he has an incredible eye for talent. May was not in high demand but what freshman in the big ten is doing more for his team? (Maybe Cully?) Lick took some heat for signing May but I can promise you there are a whole lot of coaches out there wondering, "how did I miss this kid?"

Incredible eye for talent? Where are your facts? Lick has only been at Iowa for 3 years so it's kind of hard to make that statement.

I could understand if you said John Calipari has an incrdible eye for talent.

I bet May got a lot of looks due to his pure athleticism, but I bet schools stayed away a tad due to him being so raw. I don't know how good of a "baskeball player" he will ever be, but he is a great athlete and will contribute a ton based on that.

Have you heard of Maurice Creek from Indiana 17.6 PPG prior to injury? I would say he was doing more than Eric May.

Look I love Eric May, however I am not going to make crazy statements.

Calipari has a way of cheating the system. Other than that I don't know much about him...

Would think there were many more people you could have used for examples other than him.

Who should I say?

Iowa has average talent, just like a whole lot of other NCAA Division I basketball programs. How is that having a "Great Eye For Talent"?

I was just telling him guys who generally get above average talent.

I get what he is saying but it's not like Lick has recruited a guy who was a two start recruit, developed him and sent him to the NBA. He said "Great Eye For Talent", which to me idicates that Lick has found some Diamond in the rough.

Iowa doesn't have garbage talent, just a lot of average talent. I don't get how that's showing a great eye for talent.
