It's not just the record, or the transfers, or the rumors of unhappy players, or the recruiting....
It's the record, AND the transfers, AND the rumors of unhappy players, AND the recruiting....
The record was expected to be bad the first couple years due to the condition of the program when Lick took over. We're probably a year behind where we thought we'd be due to the transfers, but...
Almost every player that transferred was not a Lick recruited player. Further, the two biggest transfers that had the biggest effect on the program were due to sick/deceased parents, which cannot be blamed on Lick.
With regard to rumors of unhappy players, you can't first someone because of speculation of unhappy players. Plus, the players shouldn't be happy with losing. Also, the rumors are likely more due to the past transfers than the current players attitudes.
Regarding recruiting, Lick's incoming class this year is his best yet and looks to be very solid. Further, Fuller, May, Gatens, Payne, etc. look like solid recruits.
Regarding another posters comments on attendance, ticked off bosters and Lick's system...
The empty arena has been a problem for the last 10 years and will improve as the team improves.
The ticked off boosters = speculation. The boosters are so ticked off that kicked in to get the Carver renovation project started despite Iowa's mens team playing so poorly. Speaking of the Carver renovation project, that should help in recruiting seeing as we will be able to compete with other teams' facilities in the Big Ten very soon.
As the players improve and score more points, the game will be more exciting. It's boring to watch a young inexperienced team try to learn to play in the Big Ten on the fly. Once they learn and are competitive again, it won't be boring. And we shouldn't have to go through this process again because the incoming players won't be thrown to the wolves like the current players.
