One more year...

Players shouldn't run the program. I know for a fact that a few weeks ago Barta was fully behind Lick as the coach, and wanted to give him AT LEAST 1 more year. Now you have a handful of boosters that are upset and have spread rumors that Lick is gone to stir things up. It isn't right...and the question now becomes, who is really running the Iowa athletic department?

The fans/boosters are the ones that decide the direction. The heads in the AD are our proxies. Basically the people with the money get to decide, the big boosters as individuals and the fans as one big group that all together have a lot of pull...

I'm not willing to let a coach run the program INTO THE GROUND.

Well I'm glad you have no problem with the players being the ones calling the shots because if Lick is fired and this conference between Barta and the players happened, that's exactly what will have happened.

If the players are calling the shots its the coaches fault for letting it happen...

You are right, players shouldn't run the program.. the AD should be and by running it he needs to look at the big picture when making decisions. and everything points to move on. there is no hope outside of Lick and Barta saying there is hope.

Fans dont believe is 1 thing, when the players don't believe makes it impossible to turn things around.

As I stated before, the players did nothing but relay their intentions to Barta. They never gave him an ultimatum. I have heard this from enough people that I am 100 percent confident that it is true. Barta acted to keep them here on his own accord. Not because he was letting the players pull his strings.

Is it so much the players "running the program" or is that Lick has created an intolerable atmosphere for a large number of his players. And his inability to make Iowa a place where a substantial number of kids are willing play forced his hand far more than anything else. This isn't on the players, it is on Lick.

Lickliter has lost the team. The lack of effort in the last 4-5 games made that apparent.

If Lickliter was a good recruiter, this wouldn't be a problem. He could replace players that are disillusioned with him. But, he's not a good recruiter. Good recruiters find capable junior college players to fill in the gaps during the early transition years when rebuilding program.

Raveling did this. Mr. Davis did this. Alford did this. Lickliter did not. When he took the job, Lickliter knew the big challenge in front of him.

You're missing what I'm saying. IF Barta fires Lick because the players don't like him that is a real problem.

I just don't see that as a huge problem. Are you saying that the players should have no say in anything that happens? I would think they're opinion would be highly valued...

I don't have a problem with boosters saying they will pull their money...heck that is exactly what happened a few weeks ago, and Barta still said he was standing by Lick. I have a problem with that group of boosters spreading lies to try to stir things up...that is exactly what they did when they found out their money wasn't enough to buy out Barta's loyalty to the coach. It's wrong and I hope Barta exposes them.

nope. that isnt' the case. if it was Just the players the AD shouldn't have a problem saying "it is what it is, sorry that you're not a part of our future". but it is the fans and boosters, then the players.

It's not just the record, or the transfers, or the rumors of unhappy players, or the recruiting....

It's the record, AND the transfers, AND the rumors of unhappy players, AND the recruiting....

The record was expected to be bad the first couple years due to the condition of the program when Lick took over. We're probably a year behind where we thought we'd be due to the transfers, but...

Almost every player that transferred was not a Lick recruited player. Further, the two biggest transfers that had the biggest effect on the program were due to sick/deceased parents, which cannot be blamed on Lick.

With regard to rumors of unhappy players, you can't first someone because of speculation of unhappy players. Plus, the players shouldn't be happy with losing. Also, the rumors are likely more due to the past transfers than the current players attitudes.

Regarding recruiting, Lick's incoming class this year is his best yet and looks to be very solid. Further, Fuller, May, Gatens, Payne, etc. look like solid recruits.

Regarding another posters comments on attendance, ticked off bosters and Lick's system...

The empty arena has been a problem for the last 10 years and will improve as the team improves.

The ticked off boosters = speculation. The boosters are so ticked off that kicked in to get the Carver renovation project started despite Iowa's mens team playing so poorly. Speaking of the Carver renovation project, that should help in recruiting seeing as we will be able to compete with other teams' facilities in the Big Ten very soon.

As the players improve and score more points, the game will be more exciting. It's boring to watch a young inexperienced team try to learn to play in the Big Ten on the fly. Once they learn and are competitive again, it won't be boring. And we shouldn't have to go through this process again because the incoming players won't be thrown to the wolves like the current players.

Link to proof that any booster lied?

You can't be this naive. It has hit a whole new level of apathy under Lick. Check attendance the last three years under Alford and compare it to Licks. Not a good comparison for your point.

Lick's young players have hit a wall and are not used to playing such a long season. They'll take a break, then get back in the weight room and on the floor. They'll be competitive next year after learning from this past year.
