On the bright side

My point was simply that I don't think KF is as wrapped up in this as the fans are. I'm sure he's discussed this with Beth Goetz. Maybe he knows something that we don't?
KF knows a lot of things that message board posters either don't know or simply refuse to believe.

KF knows he is an icon at the U of Iowa. Not 1 in 500 Iowans could name either the President or the interim AD's while 495 out of 500 know Kirk Ferentz (adults of course). KF is not only well known and iconic he's widely seen as a very good person.

KF, who is much more informed and cagey than he appears, also anticipates next year's General Assembly is going to war with Iowa/Iowa St./UNI over curriculums. I am sure there is much on campus discussions about the future. I am not inviting partisan debate on the merits of the changes merely observing the fight is coming in four months.

KF knows the President and the AD cannot afford to pick a fight with him when they will be up to their ears saving curricula and jobs they want but their employers don't.

Any decision to fire KF would have to fly by the Regents. Any decision by the Regents would have to fly by the Governor. Now the President and the AD aren't morons. They know all these things as well. Indeed, they know the Governor stood by Kirk during the player's shakedown when most politicians would have run like deer when the story first broke.

The President has limited political capital, and a new interim AD has none. They don't want to waste that capital over the football coach. They also don't want to give the Governor the kind of political win she would get from a showdown over Kirk. The President and AD know they would most likely get themselves fired but also create their worst nightmare of curriculum changes while they create the perfect briar patch to take the blame-the leftie women that wanted to fire Iowa's conservative coach. "We are the guys that saved Kirk Ferentz from Woke University President" kind of sounds like a good ad and a good argument in a deeply red state. That's a beat your chest kind of message in Iowa. All of the foregoing gives Kirk institutional support and, best of all, he would never have to make a public statement of any kind. The pieces are where they are on the board.

KF knows he's solid for a couple more seasons and a few points here and there won't make any difference. As long as KF is solid, BF is solid.

The fact that he didn't is telling. I don't really think that this is a big concern of his and in that moment, sportsmanship was more important.
Sportsmanship? See ending to both PSU and FSU game for what college coaches and players want to do.

Running a play in live action gives you another rep and game film. Kicking from a FG may be a bit much but at least get some plays on film so you can make your team better.

Stopped reading after the first few paragraphs.

This is about Brian Ferentz not Kirk Ferentz. It’s a signed contract. Period. There is no fight. There is no discussion. He gone at end of year.

If he had it woulda been really really telling. He'd have been doing it for 1 reason and 1 reason only and what this shows is he's self aware. He knows damn well how that'd look and he can't do it cause he doesn't want to have answer those questions about it. He's painted himself in a corner on the whole thing and I don't have much sympathy. My sympathy goes towards the rest of the staff and players. They didn't ask for this nonsense.

I wasn't disagreeing with your point. I said it at the time that I thought we should have attempted the FG.

KFz stated that he's never fired a coordinator and doesn't plan on doing it. I wouldn't be surprised that if pressured, he tells Goetz, "If Brian goes...I go".

If Brian takes an NFL job (which reportedly he wanted to a year or two ago but Dad convinced him to stay) who would sign on to be the OC under KFz?

Here's the most relevant question about this whole thing to me. Say Iowa wins 9-10 games. Brian finishes just short of 325 pts. Anyone really think they'll let him go? Sure they'll rip up his current contract. But that doesn't mean they couldn't just give him a new one for less $.

Depending on how Goetz handles this could depend on if this is KFs last season. Say it plays out that BFs contract is terminated due to not hitting 325. KF puffs his chest out to demand to be able to rehire him under a new contract. Then say she holds her ground and says no she won't let him and quite frankly doesn't want to be BFs "boss" anyway. She inherited this mess obviously and may want to just wash her hands of this whole situation.

If KF and her butt heads over this maybe KF would call it a career.... I'm not saying I think inevitably they will but I see it being a possibility.

I can't imagine anyone other than O'Keefe taking over as OC.

He's not going anywhere and will be on the sideline as a position coach next year. The contract reads he'll be terminated in June 2024. Lets think about this. We really think that Kirk is going to go out and find a new OC 2 months before the season starts? If and when BF doesn't reach that 25 ppg they'll simply re-sign him as a position coach and restructure from within. The contract is laughable and I want BF gone as an OC as much as anyone, but I think were kidding ourselves if we seriously think he'll be gone.

You should probably have read on because your simplistic precis clearly shows you do not understand the difference between your preferences and the machinations of the real world.

You should probably rethink the distinction between Kirk and Brian. Brian will only leave if Kirk wants him to leave. Everything that happens with Iowa football is about KF-he runs the football show. You couldn't possibly think the U of Iowa would fire BF over KF's objection. In fact, I don't think even you really believe that to be the case. You just hope it's so.

Two attorneys general couldn't move the old man off the rock in the race lawsuit hoax. KF and through him BF as well would not sign off on a settlement unless they got the last word. That word for each and every player's was an admission that the events they alleged did not happen, they had no evidence that the allegations happened and their previous allegations and discovery answers were false. If KF sailed through that very stormy sea you think anyone is going to fire Brian without Kirk's consent, and we both know Kirk will not give that consent?

Read the red font above. Imagine me laughing. You also appear unaware of the legal concept of waiver.

What's with the "he gone"? That was worn out 20 years ago. Unless you're an Appalachian or have not yet learned the linguistic concept of "tense" it is probably better to stick with actual English language grammar.

One other trick about arguing your position, don't ever start disagreeing with someone by saying you didn't read what they wrote. It immediately discloses you don't know with what you disagree.
