Oliver Martin Back on Iowa Campus Monday, Will Join Hawkeyes This Week

Anyone have an idea of what turnaround time is on NCAA decision once app filed, which I would assume would be this week?

I'm gonna pat myself on the back. When I guessed (and it was a guess) that if Martin visited Iowa first and so soon after deciding to transfer I figured it had to be a done deal. I mean he didn't have a plan B C or anything. And I assume he didn't just wake up the day he entered the portal to decide he was going to do it. Hes a pretty thoughtful kid and I bet hes been kicking it around for awhile now and just decided the timing couldn't get any better then what it is.

This is the wording, "A request for immediate eligibility can now be granted if the transfer was due to "documented mitigating circumstances that are outside the student-athlete's control and directly impact the health, safety and well-being of the student-athlete."

Based on this stipulation alone, I don't think he'll get it. Unless they can really juice the "well-being" wording.

I think this thing hinges on whether they can portray Harbaugh as a predatory a-hole. I'm thinking we have a shot based on that criteria.
Lol, that could be interesting. The transcripts read "coach X demanded hot tub massages after every practice...coach X regularly spent nights in players' dorm rooms."

Awesome news. With some of the numbers our TEs and slot receivers (Easley, McCarron) have put up, think he could thrive on the inside

So what are his measureables? Curious since on one of these Martin threads a poster wrote he runs a 4.1 40 which I find hard to believe.

Sorry. That was me. I was being a smartass.

OM is not a burner. Probably a 4.5 guy. Strong route runner with good football speed, hands and size.

I was gonna say--At 4.1 Martin should be trying out for the Olympics. I'll take crisp route running over a .1 second 40 advantage.
All day, any day. Steve Largent was never known as a classic burner, but he was frequently wide open. Because he was a precise route runner. His career YPC numbers are similiar to Lynn Swann, who had a reputation as a deep threat.

On the B1G scale, Dave Moritz had a way of getting open deep even though he wasn't known as a burner. His career YPC at Iowa is more than a yard higher than Tim Dwight. In fact, he's second all time in YPC among the top 20 at Iowa in career receptions (Maurice Brown #1).

There is some precedent here, as others have been granted a hardship waiver based on coaching changes. Michigan changed both their offensive coordinator and WR coach so that would be OM’s best case here.

It’s a toss up with the NCAA at this point, seems like they just flip a coin to decide, of course the big schools get a loaded coin.

Why even apply for a waiver when he clearly does not qualify? Oliver Martin knows the rules. The coaches all know the rules. Everybody knows Martin needs to sit out a year. Why waste the NCAA's time with a waiver request?

Well I hope he kicks ass for us but I feel the way Kulick does about him. I won’t say anymore so I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings talking about a 21 year old adult

Largent is my all time favorite receiver. Unreal hands and caught everything.

A precedent has already been set a long time ago that kids can get waivers for coaching changes. Michigan changed OCs and that has been grounds for waivers being granted in the past.

To not try and take advantage of that would be foolish.

I've read that the school would have to apply for it on the players behalf. KF in the past has disparaged other schools for having done it in what would be similar situations. So itd be somewhat hypocritical of KF to now go for this to me. Unless he has a change of heart and just figures since you cant beat em try playing the same game as them. It seems like quite the reach and I'd go out on a limb and say even if Iowa applied for it with iowas luck with the NCAA lately he wouldnt get it...

And got the crap knocked out of him. In fact his first couple years in the league were played under the old rules where any and all contact was allowed on receivers until the ball was in the air, including "axeing" their legs right out from under them, a favorite technique of Pat Fischer and Dick Anderson.
