I'm just surfing around on the H/N and see a freakin ad for Nebby. Not cool, any one else seeing this CRAP???

Makes sense, they are a huge manufactured rival. They may soon overtake the protected rivalry with Purdue.

The clown/Iowa game is a manufactured rivalry or at least the clowns are trying to make it a rivalry. Most Hawkeye fans could care less if that game were dropped from their schedule and in fact, favor dropping the series. The clown athletic dept and the clowns of course, do NOT want the series dropped (for monetary reasons and some pride).

When that happens the game is a manufactured rivalry. A true rivalry develops over many many years with both teams winning regularly and winning games that mean something to each team. The Iowa/clown series is highly lopsided so the ONLY team that benefits from playing that game anymore is the clowns.

Has Nebraska beaten Iowa most of the time...yes. They also scheduled games when THEY were high and mighty and Iowa was experiencing a very long drought. Once Iowa, began to give them competition and even beat them, THEY quit playing Iowa. Had a series developed the entire time Hayden was here, I believe the wins/losses would be fairly equal.

At this point, the NE/Iowa game is a manufactured rivalry. But over a period of years that series may/will develop into a very good rivalry...one that will equal the Wisconsin/Iowa series. THAT series is Iowa's biggest rivalry and few would argue.

There are many teams in the Big10 that Iowa plays that are a much bigger rival than the Iowa/clown game. That is why the Iowa/clown game is a manufactured rival. The ONLY team that considers that game their PRIMARY (and ONLY) rival is the clowns.

Really? I believe the 2 teams have played 5 times since 1980, results:
1980 NU 57 UI 0
1981 UI 10 NU 7
1982 NU 42 UI 7
1999 NU 42 UI 7
2000 NU 42 UI 13.

I don't see much to fear, there, nor do I see much competition. I believe that Mr. Davis wanted a series with Iowa for years, but Iowa declined. I also heard that DoNU was trying to get a series signed with Iowa since the last time we played, but scheduling conflicts by both teams would not allow it.

Granted, since 2002 (our dark years) you may have been more competitive, but if there would have been a series since Fry and Osborne were there, it would not have been pretty or equal, imo.

You are so full of $h**!!! Hayden came to Iowa in 78' and had to rebuild a program from scratch in his first three years he had a victory from NE. 99' and 00' were Ferentz's first two years as head coach also building from a cupboard left a little bare from Hayden's final years. Trust me, if we were playing NE during this whole time it would be a very equivalent series. You Huskers and your "dark years", you sound like Penn State fans.

It's not a dream, it's just silly to make statements like Hunter makes when there is no way to back it up. I can sit here and tell you we would have killed you every year and you can't dispute it because the games were never player.

I for one am happy to see us get the chance to play NE year end and year out. Should be a great series and a great rivalry eventually.

HA! I love hearing Michigan and Nebraska fans live in the past. It's like hearing an Englishman dwelling on the colonial times.

yeah in not trying to be the anoying husker, but it just seems like both parties are living in the potential past in this thread.

That's fine, that is why I included the "imo" in the post.

During that period, Iowa had a few very good years where they would be competitive, they had some ok years where they might suprise, and they had some not so good years. During that time, Nebraska won no less than 9 games per year, and were always in contention for the conference championship and occasionally the MNC.

IMO, if this would have been an annual game during that time, it would have been very similar to the Missouri series or maybe the Colorado series.

Ummm, in case you missed it, it was in direct response to this quote:
"Once Iowa, began to give them competition and even beat them, THEY quit playing Iowa."

I was simply pointing out the fact that Iowa hadn't won a game against Nebraska since 1981 or had competed well since then, yet we had played a few times since. I was simply disputing the claim that somehow Nebraska wanted out of a series that we had won 80% of the last few games that we had played.

Also, I find it hilarious how Hawk fans talk about how great y'all have been for the past ten years and how you would've whooped the Huskers, then you point the finger at US for living in the past. Classic!

I'm looking forward to this season, see you on Black Friday.

Was it about Nebraska's sports teams? If so, I will try to track it down and remove it.

No offense Jon, but as the owner of this site I would think you would know what is going on at your site. These auto play ads are beyond annoying. This used to be a good site to come to and read about the Hawkeyes. Now all it is a place to get spammed with ads and after you are able to locate and shut down the auto play ads you can then go find what you're looking for. I know you need revenue, but this has gotten to the point I don't even like coming here any more.

Even with my Hawk-bias, I have to admit that this is how I too feel things would have turned out if we had an annual series with NEB. Iowa would have been competitive from 1984-86 and 1990-91, but other than that NEB had dynamite teams to trump Iowa's very good squads (i.e. 1983: Hawks a good 9-3, but Nebraska 12-1 and 1 pt from nat'l title).

Iowa maybe wins five or six games between 1979 and 2001. Many Big 8/XII teams wished they would have beaten Nebraska five or six times in that span, but we would not have been close to .500 against them.

The problem is you don't know. Even during the so called "down times" for Iowa that you and Hunter are referring to the Hawks would still pummel Iowa State. Maybe the Big 8/XII just wasn't that good.:)
