Michigan has a coach

Willingham from Utah. 5 year deal. He is 66. Guess they aren’t worried about his age. Good for them. This will indeed be interesting.

Relatively short term option to steady the ship. It is a good hire, IMO. He is a solid guy who coaches a B1G style. Probably at the biggest downfall is he is not a dynamic recruiter.

They can come back in 3-7 years and find a longer term answer.

He will be fired before he is 69……Michigan = Nebraska
You can bag on Michigan all you want for the turnover they have had at HC the last couple decades, but they keep trying and don't settle for above average. And, as tainted as we believe it to be, they have a nattie in their trophy case this decade. This was a better coach than they deserved given the circumstances. Same with PSU.

The age thing is interesting. 66 is better than 6 7. :)

They have guaranteed themselves that they will have another relatively short-tenured coach, but if he wins it will be a good hire.

If he win's I hope it'd be a Natty that doesn't have an Asterix next to it and they won it without cheating.

They really needed a guy who would avoid scandals for a few years. This is what this is. Michigan should win 10 games a year on auto pilot.

This

He is a very good coach and made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear at Utah.
More than the wins and losses, Michigan needed a guy to restore their credibility and reputation on the National stage. Whittingham is the perfect guy for that.

Yes, he will do fine. My only concern is will he be endearing for the high quality recruits they have been able to snag. I would guess the Michigan Brand will be enough to overcome that. Good hire for them even if it is just for a short term period. Have never heard a bad thing about the guy and I respected how Utah played the game.
