!*****Official Youngest Basketball Team Ever! @ Little Dick Pitinoville Game Thread*****!

We had the ball secured though, and Ellingson clearly called timeout. Even if he didn't the Minnesota player was out of bounds so it still should have been Iowa ball. That call royally screwed us over.

That call hurt, but we had chances to win. We didn't get a good look at the end of regulation for the win and for some reason we threw the ball the length of the court with 3.6 seconds in OT. I mean 3.6 seconds if perfect to get it inbounds to Jordan on the run, set a couple bodies to screen at half court and Jordan will get a 25-30' look at a shot and he has a real chance to hit that. I don't get at all what Fran was doing there.

Here's another one. When Bohannon got in trouble at the end of regulation, Baer frantically called timeout with 2.5 seconds left. The ref ignored him.

Yeah, plus I bet Jordan was afraid to call TO anyway, because he knew it wouldn't be granted, they would get a jump ball, so he just chucked it up instead.

Agreed. That didn't make any sense. There was plenty of time to throw it 1/4 of the way and then have whoever catches the inbounds pass, probably Jok or Bohannon, bring the ball up and fire a 3.

Bad decision but in hindsight we got a good look anyway. We had a wide open layup if Baer would have known there was enough time left to dump the ball to Bohannon.

An Athletic Director with a set of nuts would publicly call on the B1G to reverse the game outcome.

No governing sports body will reverse the outcome of a game after the fact. Just look at any far more egregious calls in pro sports that cost teams the game. Or if you want a college example that Oklahoma State game against whoever it was where they got screwed at the end. I would be happy with the Big 10 acknowledging the blatantly terrible officiating though.

Also it turns out the end of the half where they made a shot with a hundredth of a second left killed us. If Moss just pulls out for the last shot those 2 points are gone. The end of the game plays out different tho so who knows.

What kills us is Baer's and 1 missed free throw. If he makes it we are up 3 with 45 seconds left. It changed the game. I hate to say it but I knew he was missing that. Nothing against him it's just that Iowa can't have nice things.

Not to mention Bohanon is running up signaling and yelling time out as well. Also on the replay it appeared that Baer is signaling for time out. I thought there were three refs. You would like to think one of them would have seen an Iowa player signaling for a time out.

The gift of a basket before half also cost us. On the camera shot from behind the basket it clearly looked like it had not left the Minnesota players hand before the clock expired.

Feel sorry for the kids as they played their butts off.

Another awesome one...

That is terrible and it isn't even close to the worst one. Feels kinda like the Michigan State game where the refs cost us a chance at the tourney. These were all just them sucking at their job tho. Didn't seem melicious to me.

Yep, we didn't make enough winning plays is what it comes down to. That call hurts, but there was 20 seconds left, who knows how that all plays out. Baer make your FT. Iowa make a shot (they have 4 chances to extend the lead when they were up 69-67) and couldn't convert on any of them.

I guarantee the ref jizzed a bit when he called the jump ball in front of that crowd.

I usually don't point a finger at the officials for a lost and I guess I won't here because Iowa had two overtimes to prevail and didn't. I do think it is fair to criticize referees when glaring mistakes are made and the failure to grant a timeout in a situation as obvious as the one near the end of regulation has to be singled out. Iowa is up two and in possession of the ball with 20 seconds or less. It is an obvious situation where a team will foul or a trapped player will call a time out. A referee no more than 20 feet away can't see a defender standing on the end line or hear a player asking for time out simply indicates incompetence. The outcome of the game has been determined, but the Big Ten needs to apologize publicly for the failure of one of its officials.

Minnesota had chances too. They both fought hard. It sucks when one team had to do more because such a bad no call.

Just saw that photo...unbelievable.

Acknowledging the blatantly terrible officiating has already been done by everyone that watched it. It is obvious to anyone that can think objectively that the ref(s) and everyone else at the arena and everyone watching on television heard him call timeout at least 2 times. Now, you have to ask yourself: why didn't the ref give Iowa the timeout? We all know the answer. Officiating is rigged. Not necessarily for gambling purposes, but for what the top officials of conferences want to happen. It's a fact that we all try to ignore to be able to enjoy the game, but we are continually reminded of it during times like tonight. :(

edit: on further review, the microphone might have been picking up Bohannon calling a timeout. Either way, a timeout was obviously called. FML

It should also be a tie breaker if we are in a position where one more good road win would have got us in. Not that it matters now because a double overtime road loss is not a recipe for a good showing on the road 3 days later. This was worst case scenario for beating MSU.

Yep. I think we are actually hearing Bohannon yell timeout repeatedly. You're right, Baer also came running at the ref calling timeout. This is obviously one of the biggest hose jobs in a long time. They could at least suspend the refs for a few days, right?

That call absolutely crushed us. Last year's team would probably find a way to lose anyway, but Jok, Bohannon, or Ellingson puts us up 4 with 20 seconds left 9 times out of 10. They make at least 1 to put us up 3 99 times out of 100.
