That's the perverse allure of the sport. I used to hate it but then it hit me that a lot of these games are strung-out cliffhangers because you never know when it's gonna hit.

MLB salaries are the highest in american sports. Top level soccer players salaries are in line with MLB. A-rod is getting ~$33 mil/yr. Beckham got ~$37mil/yr a couple years back.

I used to despise soccer...until I actually paid attention to the game. I love it now, and games like these are great for the sport in the U.S.. What an amazing goal...from getting screwed over(again) to winning it in grand fashion.

There are a lot of scenarios where we would not have to play Germany. If Ghana beats Germany and the Australia/Serbia game does not end in a draw, Germany does not even make the elimination round.

We all might as well learn to love it anyway since our kids will be playing it.

My nephew is kind of a thug on the soccer field. It gives me a perverse pleasure to watch him steamroll kids if they get between him and the ball. I doubt that surprises many of you. Heh.

Maybe in Europe but not in the US. The MLS has a cap of $2.3 million per team with a player maximum of $415,000. Beckham is the exception to this rule.
