Official USA vs Algeria Thread

what kind of money soccer players make?

The top stars in england for the bigger teams are on 100,000+ pounds per WEEK

a US player in England like Dempsey who plays in the EPL and is a pre-written in starter every game is probably on 30-40,000 pounds a week...

Maybe in Europe but not in the US. The MLS has a cap of $2.3 million per team with a player maximum of $415,000. Beckham is the exception to this rule.

CBCSports.ca - Blogs - MLS salary cap unlikely to go up considerably

You really can't say that though.. it's true.. but just like the top athletes in baseball, hockey, and baseketball come to the US to play (the Top tier leagues reside here), so too do the top athletes in soccer go to Europe to play (the Top tier leagues reside there).

I used to despise soccer...until I actually paid attention to the game. I love it now, and games like these are great for the sport in the U.S.. What an amazing goal...from getting screwed over(again) to winning it in grand fashion.

I never despised soccer because I used to play it as a kid, albeit not very well. It's just a sport I never paid much attention to, and I confess to never having sat down in front of the t.v. to watch a soccer match in its entirety once in my entire life. Until today.

One thing I definitely appreciated was the constant non-stop action, compared to a sport like college basketball where you have to sit through endless amounts of t.v. timeouts, and situations where teams call repeated timeouts the last 1-2 minutes of a game. Stuff like that.

Other than halftime of course, it was nothing but soccer. No commercials. No fluff. I enjoyed the experience.

Oh, and a great game today too.

USA USA!!

The way that game was going for the US I'm surprised Donovan's shot didn't ricochet off of somebody's foot.
