MD has elite PG...Iowa doesn't have elite PG
There is your answer...NM
Flat out the worst defensive performance I've ever seen by a Hawkeye team. Turning their backs on the ball, not fighting through screens, losing track of their zone responsibilities, on and on.
I still can't believe it. It was awful!!
I wouldn't put the loss on fouls. We got more chances at the line than them. Speaking of which Iowa needs to do better at crunch time. But we didn't lose because of our free throw shooting either. We lost because MD always had an answer to our come-back and it usually included a 3 point shot. Next year Iowa will win a game like this one. This year will be about growing. But Fran will be feeling some heat a year from now as he won't have the youth excuse. Next season should be a bounce back year.
That was a very typical defensive breakdown for Iowa last night. Laughingly bad.My favorite play was Maryland inbounding the ball with less than two seconds on the shot clock. I knew they were going to get a basket. Sure enough we let them throw a direct pass to a guy wide open in the short corner who drilled it.
You have to want to play defense to play good defense...Jok is the leader and the young players follow his lead...is this part of the problem?
After a while Iowa engages its token defense and reaching defense...and get rolled for a period of time...and the game is soon pretty close to out of reach.
Defensive coaching is disappointing...why?
At least last night we morphed into a team that does a lot of resting and watching on defense and spends lots of time watching Jok jack 3s on the other end...
How easily the opponents get good, easy shots this year is, well, astounding...really.
To me, Jok's defense is the most disappointing of all the players. Jok is a capable defender when he puts forth the effort on the defensive side. He just only does it in spurts really, and at times just looks flat out lazy on the defensive end.
Now granted, I am not a D1 athlete, and maybe I am discounting how tough it is to play 30+ min at full effort when he is getting the shit kicked out of him on every offensive possession. He has to work so hard rubbing off screens and everything else to get open, and he is just getting bodied up all over the place, that I'm sure that take much more of a toll and that is part of it.
I would say being tired has almost everything to do with his defensive effort. What your best offensive player needs is 4 guys that help cover him on defense.
Okay I'm on board the Bohannon is terrible train with 56 now. Turnover turnover turnover brick brick brick.
All aboard

When you finish in the top 3 and there may be three schools in the country that care about wrestling, color me unimpressed.Iowa finishes top 3 in the country every season but yea he sucks.
