Its hard in all honesty to gauge how an Iowa season is going to go off an opening game but this was one of the Iowa openers of all time.
Team looked rusty and got shoved around by an inferior team. They were certainly quick to yoink cade when in the past petras would stay in. Makes me think his injury is worse than what they've been letting on.

Oline still looks mediocre, play calling is a BF dumpster fire, LS needs some serious work and the only saving grace for the Iowa O wa the Defense. And they looked average at best.
Regardless on the outcome of the season Iowa needs to make many changes to the coaching staff. Starting with the Ferentz duo….

Minnesota looked pretty good on offense in their first win against a big ten team. We known that Wisconsin is always going to be tough.
Today was pretty much what we have come to expect over the years. The offensive strategy as we have come to know is one of playing not to make big mistakes and not lose the game instead of playing to win by scoring. Field position is the Kirk game plan.
Now there were some poor throws by Cade but we should see improvement there as he gets more time to get his timing and accuracy down. A little bit of improvement there can give the defense more rest and hopefully more efficiency in scoring from the offense. I had hoped for a better running game.

You should take a look at the offensive performance week 1 last year. This wasn't a good showing, but it could have been so, so much worse.

Last years’ season ave was 2.9 yd/carry
That's an Iowa QB under Brian Ferentz for you.
They have to buy steak dinners for the o-line and host movie night for the defense.
Woulda matched that if they coulda run a few QB sneaks. You know...our most effective rushing play.

Iowa has been known for having a badass OL. Same can be said about the DL DL most of the time. Is it poor OL coaching, the strength and conditioning coach or just the lack of talent. Iowa got bullied on the OL and DL today against a bad opponent. Major changes need to be made soon

It would have been with Petras. Last year was a better team. Cade is that much of a difference maker.
