Official: Iowa at Arizona 9:30 central kick

Hey Jon, don't you think we are reading too much into this? Didn't all of these guys play under the lights on Friday nights in high school?

Playing under the lights in your own timezone is one thing. Playing it when you're suffering from serious jetlag is totally different. Can they overcome it? I think so. But it IS an obstacle.

Serious jet lag? They're flying to Arizona, not China. I think they can handle it.

Okay fine, not SERIOUS jetlag. But it is going to be an obstacle. Like I said, I think they can overcome it. But just because they can overcome it does NOT mean it isn't a factor. Same as the weather in a November game. Just because we overcome the weather in a game doesn't mean it didn't affect the team.

Nothing to do with call in show.

I am looking at this from a 'best chance for Iowa to win' scenario, and playing a team in their own time zone and body clock when your body clock says its 9:30, let's go play a football game now, that is going to make the teams closer to even.

I am not saying it will make them even, but it's an advantage of some degree for Arizona. Whether or not that makes the difference for them, who knows.

Actually it will be like a game starting at 8:30 Iowa time if it is a 7:30 local time kickoff as Arizona does not observe daylight savings time. Could someone in Arizona confirm this, but I know historically they have chosen not to spring forward or fall back.

Kirk seems like a guy that likes routines and while games are played at different times, they are usually 11am or 2:30pm.

The game at ASU didn't get started until almost 10pm CST and didn't end until around 1:30am. That's tough on the body regardless of age. Not to mention the sitting around that went on while waiting for the game to start. Obviously both teams had to do this, but to a body that is probably already feeling slight fatigue, this is only going to enhance it.

We were going to lose that night regardless of start time, but the late start hurt.

And very good point on the bookies. This is absolutely looked at when setting lines.

That being said, I believe Kirk learned from that debacle and our guys will be ready to go.

Someone check that daylight savings deal...it might start at 8:30 Iowa time.
Bottom line, far better off playing at 8:30 than playing in 105 degree temps that could leave us dehydrated and sapped for the next few weeks.

I like the nite game, and I think Iowa will be fine.

They are in mountain time right now but the fall back isn't till later in the fall so it will be at 9:30PM kick.

I still don't think the time matters.

Here's some info on what's known as the "circadian advantage"

Conclusion: West Coast NFL teams have had a significant circadian advantage over East Coast teams during the last 25 years of MNF. This is consistent with our hypothesis of an advantage in playing Professional Football in the early (circadian) evening compared to the late (circadian) evening. Additionally, the degree of this advantage appears to be under recognized by sporting professionals as application of this circadian rhythm based hypothesis to the Las Vegas odds (vs. the point spread) correctly predicts the winner 67.9% (p<.01) of the time. This study supports the concept of peak performance times in professional athletes. A speculative but logical extension of these results would suggest the need for EC team athletes to phase delay by three hours prior to MNF games.

Awesome post.

My guess is that QuinnsEarly finally graduated from Troll College and worked up the nerve to spout off in hopes of getting banned in record fashion so he can think he's cool and brag it up back at his actual home site...wherever THAT might be...hmm...

OMG - let the excuses for a potential meltdown in the desert commence.

If you're gonna talk about being a Top 10 football team, you should be able to show up and beat any team, anywhere at any time.

Give me a break!!! Have a little faith instead of coming up with potential disclaimers...

I am sorry but the kickoff time alone doesn't get you beat like they did @ASU......

I agree, That game was screwed up from the beginning starting an hour late due to lightning and all the other crap that went on that night? I'm confident that the hawks will not lay another egg out west.

I don't like this at all, and dont see why Iowa should schedule games against Pacific time zone teams that may have to be played at this time..dont schedule teams in the desert.

Would you rather Iowa play them at noon local time when it's 100+ outside?
