***OFFICIAL I don't follow MLB thread***

cant run a 40 yd dash...are you smoking something? it is 90 ft to 1st = 30 yds, and the average speed players run from contact with ball to contact with 1st base in 4.4 seconds. that is 30 yds in 4.4 seconds...but that is off a swing that for most guys takes them towards 3rd base (away from 1st). this then shows how incredible 3B and SS arms are as they throw these guys out easily. that is speed and arm strength.

the fastest guy in fb cant do that to 1st on a swing because they dont have the hand eye coordination to hit and much less run like that.

I try to get into it as my wife is a huge Royals fan. I follow it more than I usually would because there aren't any of the regular shows I watch on during the summer so my TV is a little unused. I like watching for 20 or 30 minutes before I go to bed.

It's hard for me to get into baseball long term just because the deck is so stacked against teams like the Royals. As soon as fall camps start for football I'm so far out of baseball I never watch another game, including the world series, which starts so late and lasts so long it stands zero chance of me ever finishing a game.

Idk when you have obese middle age men who couldnt run a 40 .....I think you can say they are a bit out of shape.

There are some fat guys wearing pajamas scratching their nutz and spitting.

For some positions, there are very fast guys. Others, not so much. The premium is on power, so the "fitness" is very specific. Stand around, sprint. Hit something. Sit for awhile.

^ How are soccer players tougher! They flop on the ground and fake injuries all the time.

If you had the opportunity to play a recreational baseball game, and then a recreational soccer game, you'd realize that you spend 90% of the time sitting and standing in a baseball game. In soccer, you're sprinting, and then just plain running all the time. Most of the guys who say stuff like the above would likely be standing in the corner barfing if they had to exert themselves that much.

Edit: I actually like baseball. I've been to the college world series a few times, and I used to go to Cubs games when I lived 0.5 mile from Wrigley. Baseball can be fun, but to me it's something to do while you drink beer. It's slow. Social and sometimes fun, but slow.

Yes because in football they are all specimens and there are NO fat guys that stand around, sprint. Hit something. Stand around for awhile ........ oh scratch that I forgot about the offensive line

This wonderful thread is almost 27 hours old, and baseball still sucks a bloody puckered anus.

Still don't understand why people think soccer players are tough. Just because they run alot during the game doesn't make them tough. And BTW I think baseball pitchers do more running and conditioning than soccer players do.

I'm thinking a thread about why soccer sucks might be in order.....

It's easy to troll the troll.....;):D

Vintin' ain't easy......

In other breaking news, I've developed a new system for grading sports. The new system, which determines how worthwhile a sport is to cool people, will attach a specific number of carefully designed units-of-measure to the sport.....

The units shall hence forth be known as "worthaphucks"...
Examples follow below.

College Football: 1,000,000 x 10^100worthaphucks
NFL: 25worthaphucks
Baseball: 5worthaphucks
Watching paint dry: 4.95worthaphucks
NBA: -2,000,000worthaphucks

I used to follow major league baseball religiously when I was younger. After the strike in 1992 or 93 (I think) I just tuned out. I could name the starters for several teams. Now, I honestly could not name five starters in all of baseball. I just don't care. Too hard to keep track of the players, the names, etc. I will take in a couple of AAA games here in Des Moines. I would rather watch men's gymnastics on tv than sit and watch baseball for three hours ... For me, baseball is just like tennis, golf and NASCAR ... It is kind of nice, however, because I can enjoy the summer months outside until college football kicks off again in September.
