That's a fair question. The non-con was impressive, but I am not sure what the middle of the B1G is right now.
Izzo is a winning coach. Fran is an also ran.
MSU has winning, championship level guards. Iowa's guards are hideous when playing championship level guards.
MSU fills their facility with rabid fans who love championship BB. Iowa begs fans to come to support the team which can't play an entire game vs championship caliber teams.
Perhaps that's enough.

Some of the same old demons reared their head in the 2nd half. No doubt.
That said, losing to MSU is no great embarrassment. 21 in a row in the B1G. How we respond on Sunday will say a lot more about how good this team is and if they've really grown.

Iowa opened the game in an emotional lather. The problem is, it's next to impossible to maintain that intensity the entire game. You basically burn yourself out. We looked completely exhausted at the end, whereas, MSU didn't even look like they were breaking a sweat.
One team relies on athleticism and ability, while the other is trying to rely on emotion. That's not a recipe for success against a good team. They will hang around until you burn out, then cruise to an easy win.
If Fran has any aspirations of taking this program to another level, he's going to have to recruit much, much better. Nothing personal against the players at all, but, we simply will never be a top-tier team with the Baers, Kreiners and Daileys of the world. Just not going to happen.

Very good points. But even if he had great talent I still question his game coaching ability and how successful he ultimately would be?
Such weird substitution pattern tonight. CMac played way too much and again just dribbled incessantly literally going nowhere with it. Moss sat way too long and then forced his play upon returning probably because he wasn't in the flow mentally or physically. Weiskamp, after forcing turnovers in the first half, may have sat too long in second??
And Fran had to know Izzo would try and take Cook out of the game. Was Fran ready to counter? How about flashing Cook to the high post, kick the ball out and flash back to the blocks where he can use his quickness to receive another entry pass with his defender on his heels? I am no frickin coach but why do we make basketball look so complicated? And set more frickin screens.
Fran just seems as lost as his players at times. He should have had zero timeouts at the 10:00 mark but he goes home with two. wtf!!

Well the rest of college basketball isn't very good this year. The PAC 12 is hot garbage. The big ten doninated the non conference
Sparty is easily a 1 seed. Michigan is a 2-3 seed. Im guessing the rest of the big ten will be scattered around 5-11 seeds.
