Roy Dev Marble is Iowa's best player and it's not even close. He can
shoot, he can take guys off the bounce, and his strength is down on
the block 1 on 1. What a pleasant surprise and nice to have an option
besides Cartwright (who is struggling, although playing better).
Oglesby, my Noglesby is a consistent 3 point shooter and should finish
above .40% for the year. He can handle the ball and seems to have a
great basketball IQ. I wish he would shoot more. He's the only
player who when he shoots I'm confident it's going in. Gatens will
continue to get opposing teams best defender, which makes his numbers
even more impressive. Gatens is Gatens, nuff said. Iowa is
competitive and darn right dangerous when Basabe is engaged and gets
off to a good start. He has dropped a lot of weight that was
seemingly making him lethargic, and his conditioning seems to be
paying off. When he struggles, so does Iowa because they really don't
have true inside presence without him. Aaron White is going to be
very very good one day. He has length, he can put it on the floor, he
can shoot from the outside, and he can block shots. Oleseni is going
to be special as well. Wish that guy could figure out how not to spaz
out and get more minutes. He's ridiculously athletic and has all the
tools to be Iowa's best inside presence, but he needs some seasoning.
He hasn't played basketball that long, and it shows. That one handed
oop last night was sick. In a couple years Iowa's front line is going
to be explosive and deep with Woodberry fitting in nicely. Right now
McCabe is Iowa's most consistent inside player, but he's forced to
play out of position. He is effective when he can stay on the floor.
Brommer brings a lot of hustle and length, but he's really limited
athletically and gets beat by quicker players.
This isn't anything really new, but just some observations. I like
talking Hawks. I think the pieces are coming together, and with
Cartwright getting back on the floor, I see some definite improvement.
What will it mean come conference play not sure, but I'd think they
can play with a lot of teams. Not going to win a lot, but should be
competitive and get a couple at home.
