O Line is a hot mess…

Understanding the youth on the Line. But even Linderbaum seems to have regressed this season. Usually by now Kirk and the OLine coach have most of the kinks out and the big fellas are starting to clear some holes. Penn State, Purdue and especially Wisconsin have totally man handled them. Today looked like Men against boys in the trenches.
-Could the O Line just be that bad and they up their recruiting on oline?(Proctor from SEP would be a monster get for Iowa)
- Does the newt strength coach need to up
the calories and reps in the weight room?
-Do they need a new OLine coach?
Just a shame as Linderbaum looks to be falling in the draft and Iowa is far from “O Line U”

last 2 weeks have really sucked but always bleed black and gold. Let’s figure this shit out boys! Go Hawks!

They also did not play with a lot of fire in their bellies today. I thought that on both sides of the ball, although the defense did have some stops where they could have laid down.

The four biggest problems we have right now

-O-line can't block anything
-QB when he has time, can't hit open targets consistently nor can identify the best targets.
-D-line can't get pressure on the opposing QB
-Coaches refuse to make meaningful adjustments.

Big Picture:
Expected to have: Kallenberger, Ince, Linderbaum, Schott, (RT = Davidkov?, Colby?, Richman?, DeJong?)

Kallenberger being done was a major blow. Injuries to Ince & Schott have cost practice time and you could see Schott still limping to sideline today. Ince trying, but it's just tough.

Guys at tackle weren't necessarily expected to play this much.

Zone run scheme usually improves as season goes on due to consistent repetition with same 5, stepping same way, making correct choices on the fly. Played 8 different lineman in 1st 2 series today - after the bye week.

Good/bad/indifferent - new OLine coach is another major change.

Last - this youth is being mismatched with a lot of 5th & 6th yr players across from them - not controllable, but a fact that matters.

1st 11:00am of season - looked like it. Wasted 1st half

Colby will be a stud. Britt has serious upside. Since Iowa is a run first team, not having a stout OL is a dagger in the offense

agree 100% on all 4. I thought the Defense played tough but just got gassed. When you the D stopped them on 4th and goal just to have the offense fumble the freakin ball right back. That has got to be a kick in the nuts. Plus the 3 and outs had to be brutal on the D

Another minor factor is IKM not being able to give Iowa a 1,2 punch at runningback. He puts his head down, plants and just goes and that would help this o-line some. He just can't be trusted on those 10-12 carries a game that you want to give to him.

How did the OL, with 2 recent alums playing OT in the NFL, one being one the best at his position get to this point? This has to be unacceptable, even to Kirk.

When you continuously face eight in the box and your quarterback is a statue that locks on to one receiver and your opponent knows what you are about to run, it can be a bit difficult for your offensive line. I admit we have had better lines, but perhaps a more mobile quarterback and better play calling would help.

Case in point, after only being down 7 points, Brian calls a deep drop by Petras on first down where he gets dropped. Why only down 7 Iowa attempts a slow developing play? At this point we could have stayed with play action and worked on quick hitters to keep the D thinking. It seems like we only pass to our tight ends and backs when we are in long yardage situations. Petras has less than 3 seconds to read the D and make the play. Deep drops give him even less time.
