Notre Dame tantrum

Yea, they beat every team they should have beaten and lost to two of the teams in the playoff. Isn't like they haven't been given the benefit of the doubt many years prior. I find it funny and rewarding.

You can’t convince me that Notre Dame isn’t more deserving than Alabama, JMU or Tulane.

I don’t blame them at all for bailing on a meaningless bowl game either. The bowl games are pointless and more and more teams will pass on them until there is a proper tournament.

I enjoy watching ND play each Saturday. Sorry I'll miss them in the P/O. I think someone had to deliver a message to the committee and ESPN. They did it. Nobody else could have done that. Face it Tulane and JMU don't belong.

When will teams like Tulane or JMU ever belong then? Teams like that get crushed because there is no way to possibly schedule a BIG or SEC schedule. In addition, if you don't let teams like that in, it completely F them with getting decent coaches or recruits. Those players get punished for going to a small school and never having a chance to compete in a playoff.

IMO they shouldn’t get a boost from not playing a conference championship game. Join a conference or win 11 games. Their choice.

Ironically, they easily win the ACC this year and would probably be the four or five seed. Alas.

Join a conference and play a tougher schedule problem solved. They either win enough and a CFP bid is a no brainer or they lose 3 or more games and it’s a non factor. If they play in the BIG or SEC they have three losses minimum in my opinion

Notre Dame has no one to blame but themselves. ND not being in a conference has bit them in the butt.

I disagree, those teams won their conference which is something Notre Dame could have done had they joined one. You have to create a path for those smaller conferences to get a playoff berth.

This makes them easier to recruit against I would think. KF can point to them and say hey how do you think their seniors ( and whole team) feel about having their season just end like that. I didn't get the sense that the players made that decision. I think the AD and Freeman did. If I'm a player or parent of one of em I'd be beyond pissed.

Why would you turn down a chance to play more football? To be around the team for another month and everything that goes with that. I just can't wrap my head around that. Sure a handful of those guys have an NFL future and maybe they'd like to not risk getting hurt for a 'meaningless' game but 90% of em won't and they'd like to play in a bowl. That's a hell of a way to pull the rug out on your team, fans etc. We'll see how that goes over

The guys going to the draft have to not like the decision. You only have so many chances to put your ability on tape. They were guaranteed one more game against a quality opponent which they have had few and they choose to not do it. Not a good look or a good decision in my opinion. The young guys miss out on the reward and the extra practices plus teh opportunity to play against a team you may not have played before or at least for awhile. Not sure who their match-up would have been against but a Texas or Vandy match-up would have been intriguing and my guess would have had big TV ratings.

Play like a Champion today unless you feel disrespected. Then take your ball and go home.

The extra practices alone should be a good enough reason to play in a bowl game. You still have a bunch of underclassmen and non starters that would benefit from the practices, some could even get to play depending on the opt outs. For teams to blame it on the health of the team is incredibly stupid when every team has about 80 athletes under scholarship, it's not hard to field 11 players on both sides of the ball.

The real losers are all the students associated with the athletic department that don't get paid who look forward to these trips. You all might get sick of me saying this because I had a son in the HMB but one of his biggest reasons he put himself through all of that was for the potential rewards of a B1G championship game and a bowl game. They put all that time and effort into the season just to get told at the end a handful of "captains" opted out of the game.

I'm sure after praying about it Touchdown Jesus said to just quit.

You wanna know why teams are declining bowl games? Because they're dumb scooby snacks now.

It's a crystal clear sign that there are too many of them.

Does Iowa State decline a bowl if in an alternate universe they were really good in 1987, and with only 12 bowls it meant something? HELL no. Not even if their coach quit and they only had underclassmen to play.

Does ND decline a bowl in 1986 because they didn't get the one they wanted? Also no.

Florida State, Auburn, UCF, Baylor, Kansas, Rutgers, and Temple are all 5-7 teams that declined bowls games. People are rioting in the street about, "How DARE you decline a bowl game??? OH THE HUMANITY!!!"

Welp, we wouldn't even be having this conversation if they weren't inviting teams with losing records for god's sake. You know why they have to invite 5-7 teams? Because there are 6-6 teams who won't play, either. Like it or not, college football has changed and the CFP is all that matters. It's where the money, prestige, and recruiting power are. Not at a Bad Boy Mowers or Cheez-Its Bowl.

I think this is hilarious, tbh. It's the market force at work, finally showing everyone that the market is saturated. Bring back 12 bowl games + CFP, not 41. Then you have to earn your way there instead of losing 58% of your games and still getting in. I'm sorry but it isn't for student staff, it isn't owed to fans for vacations to Nashville. The fans are making it about that. Go take a vacation if you want to take a vacation. Allow all teams to set up their own exhibition games at the end of the year if they want and let them find matchups, venues, etc. It'd be fun. It'd be interesting because it wouldn't be some archaic, overblown charade that people think still means something. It would be teams that wanted to play each other and could be way more fun than watching 5-7 South Roberts County Buckaroos play the New Hampshire Tech Jalapeno Poppers in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Let every team have extra practices. You didn't do something special at 5-7 to "earn" extra post season practices. Your team was quite literally below average.

Bring on the flames.
