Northwestern is now a huge game for Iowa

Some of you caused those of us critical of the schedule trolls. Now it is easy to see why we needed tougher games. Confidence is important, but false confidence isn't all that helpful.

You drinkin? 0-3 in BB. 4-8 in football. 9 out of 10 would take fitz over Kirk. Iowa has better facilities and still gets beat. look at the scores over the past 5-7 years and we can talk.

hawkfan33 is saying you can't be passed by if you weren't in front to start with.

We were very close to being 2-1. I am not referring to moral victories. It is a win or not, but we came within a three under one minute against Indiana, the former number one team in the country, and within a call or two against a top 25 team that regularly makes the final four. No way we were going to beat number two Michigan at home or in Carver. Michigan played as well as a team can possibly play. That happens a lot against Iowa over the years. Nebraska was only down 5 points with about 5/6 minutes left in the game against Michigan......

Despite the turnovers and missed free throws, I was very proud of the Hawks not giving up and challenging the Spartans to the end, without their leading scorer. There was a lot of adversity to overcome and they almost did it.....

Nothing to be ashamed of. As the freshman gain more experience, we will see the team we expected....

Merely a personal opinion, nothing more.....

You all need to step back from the edge. You do realize most nights we are starting 3 freshmen, a sophomore and a junior. I do agree that jNW is now a must win and that all teams on paper we should beat we must. Our chances for quality wins are dwindling but there are still some available although only likely ones are at home vs Minn and Illi.

The games this team plays in Jan vs these top teams is not going to be the same team that plays them in Feb and Mar. Our non-con was soft and probably didn't truly acclimate our freshmen to college bball, look at va tech and wsu games the freshmen played poorly then too. Unfortunately, we didn't get a pass to start the big ten and it is showing. The freshmen need time to mature and have the game start to slow down for them. With the remaining record it is very conceivable they can get to 9 or 10 wins in BIG. That should put us in the conversation for a ticket to the dance. Key now is beat teams we should and try and steal Minn and Illi at home.

The NW game is very big indeed, and no gimmee. NW blew out PSU at PSU last nite,so they will be feeling very confident. They have shooters in Hearn,Sobo,Markotullio,Demps,Abrahamson....all better than anyone Iowa will have in uni if Devyn sits again. I hope we pull this one out,but not confident at all. This is starting to snowball...perfect storm of bad with Devyn going 1 of 14 vs IU(or we win) and then gets hurt for MSU( or we win). Now, we are behind the 8 ball. Must win a game, now. Then another, and so on.

I think making the NIT would be a great rebound from this poor start to the league season.
As for next year, Iowa will be a year older, and with our young guys, that will really matter. They are not finished product type of top 20 recruits like Harris and Dawson....Gesell,Clemmons and Woody will all be better. IU,Mich,MSU,OSU,Minny will all lose multiple high quality players, while Iowa only loses May. Nuff said.

Not true.

I think it is, at least to a degree. Iowa's 2004/05 team got into the NCAA Tournament even though they struggled quite a bit after losing Pierre Pierce, who was on the team when they got most of their good wins. That didn't stop Iowa from getting a bid, even with a losing conference record.
