Northwestern in 2nd place...what the *ell.....Official Iowa @ Northwestern Game Thread

I don't think there I'd a guard in the BIG better at driving and creating than Perkins. Iowas O is not set up to exploit that.
Are you talking about the time in the first half when he drove into the lane and got a charging call? They were walled up all night to stop drives into the lane/draw charges. Did you watch the game?

You missed my point. The wall was there because the O didn't move Flip around much and he was drawing a double team.

So many of you seem to think Iowa is a moving disaster victim of poor shooting, bad calls, bad breaks and so on.

The O just struggles against good half court coaching and running the half court offense and that is the issue.

Agree. But with Flip hanging around the basket with 2 defenders it takes away some of the drive lane.

But yes NW put on a clinic coaching. Frans response was to swear at the refs.
Yeah Rebraca didn't have a good game either. He turned it over too much and made some bad decisions out there a lot. I think we try to play through him too much. I mean it's not a news flash to anyone but he's not Garza. Using him as a screener and occasionally situationally getting him the ball in the half court is fine. But trying to play through him like we sometimes do is head scratching to me.

the issue as always is inconsistent shooting often good at home mainly awful on the road...please tell me there is something better to do when we go indiana anything other than watching this.

The BTen conference has brought this on themselves by not cracking down on childish coach behavior early and often. There's NEVER a reason for a coach to be outside of their box or to step onto the court during a game, and it happens constantly. Should be an automatic tech. Refs take verbal abuse the entire game, until....well, they subjectively decide they've had enough. Verbal abuse of officials shouldn't be allowed at all. Automatic tech. Do you really think coaches would continue to act like 2-year olds if every time they got a tech they'd have to miss coaching 3 games? I don't. This isn't rocket science. To quote a Jack Johnson song, "if it's hell that you want, it's hell that you'll have". The conference enabled this situation to develop; they could put a stop to it tomorrow if they wanted to. And they should.
Interesting approach.

Yes, hard down to the block screens which is flex or swinging flip away from the basket. Those would be good start.

IU is a terrible place to shoot. Same result only worse coming up.

Where I get criticism is for saying having players who are really shooters standing open to shoot isn't a good strategy. The McCaffery brothers Were in fact left open. Sandfort, Perkins and Murray were never left alone from 3.

NW was going to make Iowa do this until the brothers were going to make the 3s or they changed offense. Neither happened.

He was absolutely taken out of the game and Iowa didn't have the outside shot last night to loosen that up at all for him.
Totally agree. What was missing was Fran had no plan B. Hard low screens and moving Flip around.

Why would I know that?....

He was getting doubled.
They did double him a lot. And he's not a good enough passer/ball handler to deal with it. Normally he's not been played that way by other teams and Iowa/he didn't seem prepared for that. Our spacing was terrible and nobody seemed to be cutting off the ball hard.

Again agree but yes the did and Fran said it after the game. Either way the spacing was terrible.

And since the outside shot didn't fall, Iowa was screwed.

No plan B? Did you not watch the 2nd half when we started taking it to the rim? A game plan of leaving the other team wide open for 3s can only be a good game plan in hindsight. It was this time. If we would have shot 50% from 3 Collins would have looked like an idiot.

What ever not a good team at this time of the year look at the past . This is not last years team not even close.
Now your on crack laced with LSD. I did look at the past.. Our regular season February/March record since the 2014-15 season is 49-33. And that includes our listless 2018 team. But go ahead and proclaim Franuary, Franuary Fade, etc everytime we lose a game.

He's not Garza but he's a vital cog to our offense. He's been a double/double machine all yesr.
