Who will be lynched?
Not really disposed to reveal that information, but they won't be associated with either university, Governor or the AG.

There are many questions that have never been publicly asked. Someone should.

Understood.

A couple reputable journalists who follow the team seem to think it's likely Iowa will be without two starters in the defensive backfield due to suspension.

Sorry if I missed discussion on this, and not looking to speculate on who, just curious if there seems to be a lot of smoke there?
Those rumors are out there, but I thought I heard just one and the suspensions, if any, will be more in the 2 game range.

Yeah I'd heard a podcast hinting at that too a week or so ago. Yet the depth chart that was just put out there didn't seem to conflict with it. I'll be curious to know about that too. Surely KF isn't putting a player out there with that hanging over them. Even if it is a 'minor' infraction with a short suspension. If they haven't finalized the investigation and dropped a punishment for them then they pretty much gotta sit till they do.

Many levels of the punishment come without suspensions. Let us hope that level of punishment is what the remaining Iowa boys face.

Yep...got to throw the book at those gambling on their own women's basketball. It's a shame he didn't bring a gun to a teammate used for a homicide later that night, because that wouldn't have got him a game. Obviously I wouldn't wish that on anyone, and have nothing but condolences for the victim and those that knew her. It's just a shame what "matters" in the eyes of the NCAA.

I still wanna know what touched this whole thing off.
We can bitch and moan all about the NCAA....but the NCAA gonna NCAA. That's what they do.

But who started this, and why?
Can't a reporter get to the bottom of that?

It could very well be a reasonable, rational thing. "It came across in an investigation of unrelated x,y,z and we quickly saw athletes were involved and once we pulled a few threads we realized we had to keep going or face worse issues of essentially not doing due diligence"

But until someone comes out and gives us that, it's perfectly reasonable to assume any number of tinfoilery instances of people with vendettas against collegiate sports who wanted to make a name for themselves and further their careers.

I mean, it's sort of like this one motorcycle cop in my town who used to hide in a narrow spot between two buildings on a major road. The guy wrote a zillion tickets in his career. Yes, people were speeding. They deserved a ticket. Can't really argue that in any way.

Course, he generated gobs of revenue for this town and was always the "cop of the month" for hitting his numbers. But there's zero evidence that his zealous actions ever made the traffic in that town any safer.

Wasn't it the fact that Dekkers had a social media post from a casino about bets he was placing? Kind of hard to ignore that, and it was my understanding that this event got the ball rolling.

Oops, I had it a bit off. But here is what I was referring to:

Iowa is bordered by these states: S Dak, Minn, Wisc, Ill, Mo, and Neb. Has the Iowa Gaming Commission ever investigated whether individuals on college sports teams crossed the border to gamble on games? It would be pretty easy to set up an account by physically crossing the border to use an Iowa IP Address to create one. I have no clue how those monitoring the gambling were able to identify the athletes involved.

It is also strange that we haven't heard about other under age individuals being caught with accounts and making bets.

Yes, but the location codes would prevent that individual from placing a bet from another state where it is not legal.

Ahhh....OK....
I just read an SI article on this. While it doesn't provide the touchstone....I see how the net got so wide.

I'm assuming they simply requested (subpeona'd?) the geolocation data. Did they request all of it? Or just from Iowa City/Ames? Or did they just search bets in those areas? Why nothing from Cedar Falls or Des Moines? Or Grinnell, Des Moines...Indianola? Those are NCAA towns too. Only Division 1 student athletes gamble?

I can see a way it started.
"Rumors or other evidence of Athlete X (Dekkers or other) gambling. Easy peasy. Let's get the geolocation data."

But, decisions were made here. Someone made them. That person should talk.

From what I read somewhere (and somewhat unsubstantiated), a parent of an ISU player noticed charges on her credit card and filed a complaint. That lead to authorities finding out that that player had opened an account with the parent's credit card, and then they started to dig deeper. When the parent found out what was happening she tried to cancel the whole complaint but the cat was out of the bag.

Fair enough. That's got some logic to it. If you believe that Mom/Dad didn't think "Hey, my kids got access to my card, let me ask him." Which, yes, I can believe. Heat of the moment, you see charges and assume fraud. Fraud's pretty rampant these days. Time to go ballistic.

I guess I can believe that they're only going off geodata from places where they can identify them as athletes....ie....inside areas where only athletes/staff are permitted. Might be a little harder to do that at Simpson than say Iowa or ISU. But, you'd think UNI's big enough. Maybe they're all just little angels. My UNI grad wife would probably say that.

I feel marginally better about this, if this is the case.

I posted the population will want to lynch the progenitor of this entire situation a couple weeks ago. Do not assume your statements above (in red and bold) are far from the target zone.

There are many questions to be asked but no one is asking.

KF said in his press conference today that Noah Shannon has been cleared to practice. I don't know if that means cleared medically or cleared by the NCAA. Hopefully, he'll be green lighted to play games soon.

I highly doubt that. A google search give no indication of it. If that were the case Kirk would have specifically talk about that in length.

The corrupt NCAA has a hard on toward traditionally clean programs, but are turning their backs on the most corrupt conference “SEC” in college sports history. Money is the tail that wags the dog.

I posted this just after KF mentioned it as I was watching the press conference live so it probably hasn't propogated to Google yet. :)
