What would one of them have done lately to have gained the upper hand? They haven't practiced since November. I wouldn't expect that anything has changed since then. Spring ball starts in less than 4 weeks, though.
 
All four potential QBs are coming in with a blank slate, so hard to see how there could be a "battle." Not like there's a hotshot freshman coming in to challenge a struggling incumbent, or that it would matter to Kirk Ferentz.
 
In all seriousness I expect the battle to be very fierce as whoever gets it will get every snap this season barring injury. Up big, down big, playing great or playing poorly Kirk doesn't play the backup.
 
The coach does change starters and play back ups it just depends on the situation. He changed QBs in 99, 00, and 08. Also in 01 he rotated in the backup QB in regular game play. In always played backups when Iowa was blowing teams out. I hope they blow some teams out this year for our chips and salsa time.
 
There are a couple of posters on the pay board that seem to have access to the inner workings of the football program. They have said that Beathard has the highest ceiling but they are not sure if he is as ready as Rudock or Sokol. My take is if they are all at the same skill level come camp next fall Beathard will get the nod.
