No Pinstripe love from PennLive

I could care less about what people say about the bowl game or where we are playing this year. 7-5 happened because we just didn't make the plays when we had to. The late John Facenda of NFL film narration fame, used to say, "Great teams aren't always great, they are just great when they have to be."

Penn State, MSU, NW, and Purdue were all very, very winnable games. We just weren't great when we had to be. 2015 is a year when we were...and it's about the team and everyone contributing to make something special. Experience plays a key role in this recipe also.

The best thing about this bowl game is that Nathan Stanley, ISM, Tristan Wirfs, Alaric Jackson, AJ Epensesa, Brandon Smith, Amani Hooker, Matt Hankins, Geno Stone, Nick Easley, Ivory Kelly-Martin, Toren Young, Noah Fant, and TJ Hockenson all get to practice together a few more weeks and play one more game. When you look at the youth we played this year...it's no wonder we had issues against more experienced teams. That's 14 players that had major a contribution in their first year...and have 2 or 3 more years to play. Think about that for a minute.

The future is definitely bright in Iowa City.

The additional practices and travel experience will help this young group, and the exposure on TV helps with recruiting. Some of the negative comments are a joke. I cannot imagine how much fun some of these folks must be to hang around

Not if we have a really good exciting team and 30,000+ fans go down there.

The days of getting 30,000 to travel to a 2nd tier bowl game might be over. With the TV money getting a bunch of people to travel doesn’t matter nearly as much.

I am talking about the Outback or Cap One bowls because someone said the hawks wont get picked for those bowls because the fans wont travel. I disagree as so many Iowans want to go south anyway during the winter. I would say with high probability that if the hawks had beat jNW or MSU on the road and Purdue and been ranked 24th they of course would have got a very good bowl destination in the south and a whole lot of fans would love to follow them to the game.

Winning those two other bowls would have meant more consistent offense in two more games and not the sour taste some fans rightfully had about what type of team would show up at a bowl game.

I get what you are saying. I think to get 30,000 to travel to a non playoff, non NY6 bowl game is unrealistic. The number is 15000-20000 at best. By today’s standard 15-20000 is a big number.

Oh, lord, help me to catch with mittens, run in snow shoes, and dream of body heat if only there were fans in the stands. The Hawks’ band and cheerleaders will Skype their performances from an undisclosed stadium, with a roof. Kirk’s gum can be pre-soaked in anti-freeze and pencils still write in below zero against a frozen knee. Bryan was clairvoyant having chosen early on to call plays from upstairs in a toasty press box. The Ghost of Christmas Past brings nightmares of sun-drenched Purdue and MSU players. “Gosh,” says Kirk, “If I’d only addressed the team during those weeks, ‘stead of worrying about my NFL player credits.” Gary Barta, you let a big farta; please go, go, gone to left field.

While I would agree with this there is also a ‘but’ ....

I’ve been around long enough to hear that 15 additional practices are huge for development but ....

the next September we hear that our young inexperienced players need more practice to develop. Rinse. Repeat.

And then we struggle to beat (if even) lesser programs also developing their players. That excuse has run it’s course with multi-year extra practices. With conference games earlier that excuse has no weight.

Play. Let your players make plays. If they don’t, give them another chance to make a play. If they don’t again, put somebody else in to make a play.

When: Wednesday, Dec. 27, 5:15 p.m.
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y.
Line: Iowa by 3
TV: ESPN
Gifts: Variety of New Era products

Buzz: Nothing says bowl season like Iowa playing football in a baseball stadium in noted college football hotbed New York City. The Hawkeyes will have to make sure their run defense makes the trip east, though, because Boston College running back AJ Dillon has rushed for 1,432 yards this season.

Pick: Boston College 17, Iowa 14

Since when do we care what Penn State fans think?

There is a new slotting system for B1G. Bowls don't want the same two or three teams rotating through, nor do some of the teams continually getting passed over want that to continue. There may still be "jumps" for teams, but that will largely be based on who-went-where-last-year vs. who-travels-best.

My take on the Pinstripe Bowl;

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This is no joke, I'm not even sure what day it's being played. I don't think I'm alone.

Blues that's the same way I am about Iowa basketball. save myself a lot of frustration too. Could not tell you when the next game is. But I'll predict they won't win the league this year or anytime soon

Didn't help us last two years.

New era? Is that low budget athletic apparel like Champion? Btw, there is nothing wrong with Champion. I would rock any free gear given to me.:)

I actually really like there simple crew sweatshirts. Fit me the best and not too heavy but pliable.

Doesn't or can't every team or fan base do this, list a bunch of players and say the future looks bright for said team.

I can't tell you right now what day or time it is, honest? I have to Google it or look at the very first post in this thread.
