No National Duals

Why would they. They have nothing to gain. If they win then it's because they were supposed to. It would just hurt their wrestling ranking.

Wow, how could a short statement be wrong on so many levels:
a) they have TONS to gain. it's called big match experience for all their young wrestlers. Something they've believed in for years.
b) they aren't supposed to win. on paper right now there are probably 5 teams w/ better dual teams than iowa.
c) it wouldn't hurt their rankings, most of their young guys will barely be ranked, it would only HELP their rankings
d) The move would contradict their philosophy that they've built the progam on.

In the end, I think they will go.

iowa has never been one to back down from anybody and rankings to them don't mean crap. the competition during the year is what matters. they would rather face ppl mid season get beat then learn from their mistakes when it comes tourny time

losses during season only makes teams stronger specially iowa

I don't really think that it has anything to do with dodging competition at all. Sometimes things just don't work out and the coaches make decisions based on what they feel is best. It doesn't sound like they will go and it stinks but if that is what Coach Brands thinks is best then so be it.

I think I have to disagree. In my opinion Iowa has an obligation to go for two reasons, 1: Gable puts a lot into developing and growing the sport, the best way to do that is make sure some of the showcase events, like the national duals, midlands, and big tens grow to the point where they start getting more coverage on tv. 2: Iowans beg for the opportunity to host these big events, then when the hawkeye don't show up, the attendance will suck, and our chances of hosting future meets goes down.
