No announcement from TJ yet?

Maybe the kid knows that NFL will still be there next year too. Maybe he wants to stay and get his degree. I wouldn’t blame him if he left, but I could also see where he might wanna stay. Has there ever been a two time Mackey award winner? Would definitely would be the top TE in next years draft. Maybe he feels he’s just happy to be a Hawkeye and wants to stick around and fully enjoy the college experience just one more year. Once you leave, you really can’t get that back. Whatever his decision, I fully support it. We should learn his intentions soon enough.

No, there has never been a repeat Mackey Award winner. But Iowa is the only school with two Mackey Award winners.

Some Twitter account called Iowa Football Roster Breakdown says that "inside sources" told him Hock met with KF on Wednesday, and plans to return. Not sure if legit or not, as apparently TJ isn't showing up in the student directory yet. Take it for what it's worth...

I don't get it, why not hold an announcement? get the media together or do something with the staff or your family to tell everyone what you are doing?

I'm not convinced that the person with that account has any real inside info. Very recent account. Seems quite odd that he would wait this long to announce it if he is leaving. He truly must be torn between the 2. Maybe he feels overwhelmed and should just come back another year and mature mentally and physically to get ready for professional life on the big stage. Much different than he is used to. Needless to say we will find out soon.

Personally I hope he is coming back and doesn't make a big formal announcement. Its refreshing when someone avoids the spotlight while everyone else tries to find one at every opportunity.

I agree, it’s the ultimate Ferentzian disciple move. Make no announcement, just keep plugging on and show up at spring practice.

Just guessing here, but i would think that him coming back to Iowa City for Kittles engagement has some influence, most specifically what George would have to say about it. And if i was guessing further, i would say his advice would be "being a pro is cool and everything, but its nothing like being in college, its more like a business, and the money is nice but not everything, so i would say dont grow up until you have to." I think George would have the most valuable input because all the agents and nfl people dont care about him and he knows that, and the coaching staff is too "parent like" although they care deeply for him, but George has it all right now and i doubt he is saying it is everything it is cracked up to be. Like i said, just guessing.

I honestly think he should go. I don't think he will have near the year next that he had this year. Reason being, no Noah Fant on the field to cover as well.

Maybe so, but then again, maybe that is not what it is all about. I would venture to say that most of us on this board have made decisions to move up or to move out due to tangible circumstances (mostly money, or advancement) and only when we have achieved the perceived goal that we had can we reflect on those decisions on whether or not they were the right ones or not. For example, so many of us wished we were 16 so we could drive, or wished we could speed up high school to go to college, or try to graduate college early so we could start making money, or to move away from friends and family to a job that paid more money or had more opportunities. But only now can many of us look back and see how foolish we were to have squandered our youth. Imagine that we had someone, a peer that was close in age that we respected to have imparted some wisdom on us at the time to value some things in life more than money.

Case in point is if the NFL is so grand, and being a pro bowler and in some circles the best at your position in the world or one of them, and living in a city like San Francisco with money and a lot of it, many would say an engagement party in California is better than one in Iowa City in January. Just shows me that Kittle gets it and truly values his life as a Hawkeye, and I bet he conveyed that to TJ. I know I would.

He’s no longer a student. He was never coming back

Not saying you are wrong, but I suspect if he decided last minute to come back, they could figure out a way to get him back into a couple art and exercise science classes for eligibility purposes. In the grand scheme of things, I think class enrollment would be a pretty small impediment.
