Nico Law’s helmet removing hit

Law was my favorite player signed in that class and is going to be my favorite player for the next few years. He carries himself with swagger all the time.

And with that new rule, Bullock would have to come out of the game.

Remind me why that's a good rule?

I am not a big fan of a number of changes to NFL and CFB rules regarding protecting players, but I don't have a big problem with this one. It's well documented where players have been negligent in strapping on their lids properly and this will alleviate some of that because they aren't going to want to come out of the game.

I don't know that it's fair that anytime a helmet comes off they have to come out, but in this particular case the player you're questioning received multiple hits to the head while unprotected it appears (quality of that is questionable), so I think with the climate of the issue and NFL lawsuits they are kind of forced to error on the side of caution.

What happens when someone actually pulls/rips off an opponent's helmet? Does that player also come out of the game?

I believe the rule as stated doesn't require them to leave the game on facemask and similar penalties. Just in situations where the helmet pops off due to contact.

It could cause linemen to target the helmet area more when blocking

Sweet hit, but the Gazette's animated GIF is going induce a few seizures before all is said & done!

Would have been better if he made the actual tackle though. Bullock absorbed it and kept his feet moving. Luckily there were other Hawks there to bring him down.

Nico brings the thunder, but I hope he learns to wrap up and not go for the knock out punch every time. Bob Sanders could, but his opponents went down when they were hit by him.

Sash was similar as well in that he'd try for the big hit and a lot of times would just bounce off of the ball carrier.

Re: Nico Laws helmet removing hit

law will be fun to watch with the way he attacks. yet i feel like our dbs all need to work on wrapping. i had little to complain about prater but he didnt wrap well. i feel like a lot of iowa dbs have tried to be the second coming of bob sanders and we sometimes miss tackles because of it.

I gotta say Bullock knocked Law back. Only needed to have his dome on tighter. It was a manly collision by both players.

I take issue with this because Prater clearly had issues last year. There was a running thread about him last year explaining the many missed tackles and coverages he had and it wasn't a rare thing to see. I'm glad we've moved on and I'm excited to see Law back there.
