Nice try Rob....

I wonder if there will be many empty seats this Saturday at Kinnick? I'm gonna go, but if they play like they did against PSU, I'll get up and leave. Not going to freeze my butt off watching crappy Hawkeye football.

Gosh Rob....it's only fair that people know what I'm speaking about. Normally I'd agree that there is something on the line....but I'm tired of the same old BS about how much it matters to finish the season strong...no it doesn't....it'e been proven to be total BS far as this program is concerned. And what 2 Star recruits will we miss out on if we finish 1-2 versus 0-3...really, who cares? And the stale BS about how a Bowl Game gives us more practice for next season...hahahaha....this is the same coach who gave 1 QB 100% of the snaps for an entire season....so who is the practice good for other than the same 22 who probably already took 95% + snaps during the season. So you see, nothing really matters other than new blood at HC....someone who is willing to at least ONE time mention competing for a National Championship as a goal....and then go recruit like he really means it. Things are going to get real ugly, real soon. I will never understand why the media is so afraid to get their credentials pulled due to so called "rough treatment" of Ferments.....he never gives you anything new anyway...."That's football"...."snort". All you really need is one intern with a tape recorder....shame on you for not speaking the truth. Every sports writer in the state of Iowa should be embarrassed that it took the USA Today to expose this brain dead deal....while y'all continue to hide behind rocks too worrying about your credentials. If y'all did your job, do you really think they would pull everyones? I seriously doubt it.

There will be plenty of empty seats..
I doubt there will be many empty seats. Fans will want to go just for the what if scenario. If we get throttled by Michigan like I expect then lose @ILL we should start to see some missing seats for Nebby. Although, I still see a lot of fans attending that game because it will be the last game of the season. Next season it will start the cycle all over again. Fans will want to see what changed in the off season and have a renewed sense of hope. However, we should be facing a decent Wyoming team right out the gate and if they take it to us then we will see the outcry and fan attendance really begin to slip.

-------What could I write that would change the contract or buyout? Better yet, what should I have written that would have prevented KF from getting an extension?

Nothing, but simply shrugging does nothing either....at least the USA Today exposed what a F'n terrible deal this was and at least somewhat started the stove under Barta's ass. What really bothers me I guess is that these articles ALWAYS come from outside observers.

BTW, nothing personal.....this is the best site around....props to both you and Jon!!!

I wrote and did a podcast at the time of the extension that the buyout was bad business. Others in our market did the same.

As I wrote in this piece, there's a faction of our fan base that is done with KF. I get that. But not everybody is. For some of those people, these last three games are important.

Seems to me that the entire thing is 100% your fault, you should be ashamed, you ruined Iowa football forever.

I've watched Wyoming twice this year (including last night) They have a pretty decent football team. Another N Dakota St type team.

-------For "Some of those people" it's important?

That tells me that you are in my camp, because it's either important or it's not. I'd really like your honest opinion on the two (2) things that bother me the most about Ferments.

1. He NEVER mentions competing for a National Championship like other coaches being paid his salary....some mention it who are paid a lot less.

2. ZERO pressure to recruit like other coaches making his salary.....I guess that actually is more of a complaint that should be aimed at the AD for allowing it to happen.

I get why you would read that as me being on your side but I'm not taking a stance.

Again, the fan base as a whole decides by how it supports the program. They speak with their walIets.

I have never bought a ticket to a game at Kinnick. I've been to just about every home game since '97 on a press pass. I've never had a say in what happens.

You know very well that even if we lose all three of the upcoming games there will be supporters of KF rationalizing what a great person he is.

As for your article there is truth in it as 8-4 with a win over Michigan would be great and save some face even though you are suggesting a moral victory just by keeping it close. However, as some have said it's looking like 7-5 best case scenario or even 6-6. A 5-7 record would be grounds for KF's demise regardless of the cost. I wouldn't expect that to happen though because this is I O W A and we don't expect much here.

Maybe Trump was right what he said about Monsanto and how it affects the way Iowa people think. Seriously, something is seriously wrong with the thought process in Iowa. It ain't what it used to be.

Rob - And your comments on my two thoughts? Never mentioning NC's, and not being expected to recruit like other coaches making his bank....or a the very least, TRYING to recruit better. Rather than relying on "coaching up" 2 stars, acquiring walkons, and converting positions.

Well even the announcers stated what a great coach KF is in how he gets more out of less. ROFLMAO!!!!!!! Damn we are so lucky aren't we? If we didn't have Captain Kirk we would be 2-7 right now with the guys we have. LMAO!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!! Tears rolling down my cheeks!!!!! Gut splitting pain!!!

This is what it going to get extremely frustrating with the toxic crowd. They live in a lala land where 30 million buyouts don't mean anything, they actually think that Iowa is just gonna buy that out. Instead of looking for improvements or hoping for the best, they set the line at National championships or NOTHING!!! It is like complete and total crazy takes over in some when the losses start mounting.

I'm as disappointed as everyone else, I just fight off the crazy better it seems. If you expect NC level, just switch who you root for now. Nebraska will never win another NC in the current FBS landscape, and they have a tradition and recruiting advantage that we will never have. If you need to win a NC in order to enjoy college football prepare to be disappointed forever, and I suggest you just give up college football for your general health and well being actually.

Please leave the politics out of it, Big D. It does nothing but cause problems and I'm guessing you know it's a rule around here.

And I'm not suggesting or predicting anything. I am writing that these last three games are important in terms of attendance and recruiting moving forward into next year. Not everyone has given up or wants KF gone. To those that do, that's there prerogative, as I wrote. But there are others waiting to see how this season plays out before deciding what to do with their money next year. There are recruits looking at how Iowa finishes. That's the point of the column and what I write about.

I get that people are pissed and done. But not everybody is in that camp. If they were, nobody would be at Kinnick Saturday.

The last three games are important....important if people are going to re-up for tix next year, support the program, cry for or against the pending renovation, and/or if the fanbase is going to continue to hemorrhage and be polarized or be semi-unified with some sense of future hope.

So, yes, in a sense, the last three games are vital for future support.

As far as propping up/sustaining support/caring for *this* year's team, player and coaching development, sadly, that horse has already left the barn.
