Earlier today the 49ers announced that George Kittle is sitting out tonight due to an injured hamstring. :(

I just turned on the game a few minutes ago and saw CJ's TD and 2 pt conversion passes. The receiver was wide open on the touchdown throw, and on the 2 pt conversion CJ threw it right where it needed to be. I see in the stat line he was sacked twice for a total loss of 17 yards.

it was a really crisp play by both.

I'm not saying this season; it depends on development and if Hoyer stays true to his form and is average, but the 49ers want CJ to be there guy. CJ and Kittle probably will be around San Fran for many seasons.

If CJ continues his clean play for the rest of the preseason and if Hoyer isn't cutting it through the first half, he might get a shot this season.
 
Bad news guys. The announcers just told us that CJ Beathard is competing for the backup spot with a qb prodigy known as Matt Barkley. I remember watching his high school games on ESPN with Mater Dei, and he has just a cannon of an arm. Its not really fair to even expect CJ to compete with this kids awesome arm strength.

I can't tell if you are kidding, so I'll take the bait.
CJ is in an excellent position. Only a high first round draft pick will walk in and start. Typically a QB is only hoping to land a backup job then progress. He moved up to the second team this week and played great last night. I stayed up and watched the game. He played a lot and Barkley went in with 6 minutes left for mop up duty. Which included a botched hand off. CJ only helped his cause last night, and Bark went backwards if any movement. At this stage I would be shocked if CJ doesn't make the team.
 
CJ was the second quarterback to enter the game for the 49ers with less than a minute to play in the first half. He played all the 3rd quarter and half the 4th Qtr. Barkley played the last half of the 4th Qtr. The 49ers did not score while either Barkley or first teamer Hoyer were quarterbacking. C.J. threw the only offensive touchdown of the night for the 49ers to fellow Hawkeye Kittle. Barkley had one completion on two attemps for a total of 10 passing yards. CJ had 7 completions on 12 attemps for 110 passing yards. CJ's rating was 116 and Barkley"s was 64.

The 49ers are not a very good team right now. They had 4 turnovers in a scoreless first half. Outside of CJ to Kittle the only other score for the 49ers was a kick return by a kid from Oregon State who could fly.
