Matt Barkley comes from the same High School that gave us NFL quarterbacks Colt Brennan, Matt Leinart and John Huarte. I can still remember the comeback he led as a freshman on the road at Ohio State. He has been groomed by such fine coaches at Pete Carrol and Lane Kiffen. This kid has game.
 


It is look like a little waggle action going on there with the TE running a drag route across the field. Straight out of the KOK playbook. 3rd and 4 at the crucial part of the game that was his bread and butter.

So he is as just as awesome as the other SC quarterbacks not named Carson Palmer.:)
 
I'm no X and O guy but it looks to me like the plays they ask CJ to run look an awful a lot like what we've run at Iowa. Amiright?

The question is, Who's better Matt Barkley or Ron Pawlus?

And now he is CJ's backup.
 
I know you guys think I am crazy. But people said I was crazy when I said Matt Barkley would beat out Aaron Corp AND Mitch Mustain to earn the starting job at USC as a true freshman. I can't help but feel like history is repeating itself at Niners camp this summer.

I think he will do great...as CJ's backup.
 
I guess the roster cut down drama of nfl training camp is reduced to just one cut day. So fans have to wail until September 2nd to find out if Brian Hoyer or CJ Beathard get to be Matt Barkley's backup on Week 1.

CJ is in an excellent position. Only a high first round draft pick will walk in and start. Typically a QB is only hoping to land a backup job then progress. He moved up to the second team this week and played great last night. I stayed up and watched the game. He played a lot and Barkley went in with 6 minutes left for mop up duty. Which included a botched hand off. CJ only helped his cause last night, and Bark went backwards if any movement. At this stage I would be shocked if CJ doesn't make the team.

Kind of ironic that Iowa's 2 OLB's from that group (Hitchens and Kirksey) are now MLB's. Those two were incredible OLB's in college and no doubt had the athleticism, speed, strength, and toughness to play a lot of positions.
 
87 yard screen pass for CJB, in the midst of what would otherwise be a lesser outing for him. His stats will look decent.
