Next Year's Roster

Below is the expected roster for next season. Set aside defense, guard play, etc. for the purposes of this thread and look strictly at scoring. How many points does everyone think each player will average next year. I know there are a lot of variables that factor into this but make a guess just for fun. I intend to bump this thread next March to see if anyone was even close.

Jok - 20
Jones - 8
Uhl - 12
Baer - 8
Wagner - 6
Ellingson - 1
Fleming - 1
Williams - 5
Moss - 7
Hutton - 2
Cook - 8
Bohannon - 6
Kriener - RS
Pemsl - RS

I think the 9 man rotation will be Jok, Jones, Uhl, Baer, Wagner, Williams, Moss, Cook and Bohannon. Ellingson and Fleming are stuck behind Jok (and Moss). Hutton needs another year to work on his offensive game...may get some minutes as a defensive specialist.

I think you're close on most. I would guess closer to 5 for Baer. I hope Fleming is closer to 5 also.

This was my thinking. Baer is at 4.5 this year. I think he will play more minutes and take more shots. So I bumped him a bit. Fleming is stuck behind Jok...and Ellingson based on this year. And I'm buying the Moss is better than Fleming argument/hype.

Nice job. I would bump up Ellingson to 4 and Hutton to 5. I like that Hutton won't leave the gym until he makes 350 jumpers a day. I'd probably bump down Cook to 6 cause he still needs work on his shot. I doubt Fran RSs both Kriener and Pemsl. Made sense to RS two guys this year with so many upperclassmen taking PT but that won't be the case next year.

I had some of the guys higher and then realized the team was going to be averaging about 97 points a game. So I started backing some of them off a bit. I don't disagree with any of what you said. It could be that Jok is at 20 and everyone else scores around 60 and it's different guys every night so there's a whole lot of guys in the 7 to 8 point range.

I don't know what our record will be next year...actually more optimistic than most. But it's always fun for me when a whole new group of guys starts to play. Hutton is supposed to be a lock down defender so if he can score 8 points a game he may be on the floor a lot.

This is VERY BAD karma, Windsor; you've put 2016 behind and are on to the next class of Hawkeye bball!

Meh, might as well start today; you'll be doin' it 4 L's - errr, games - from now.;)

This is just a time filler until we can talk about Iowa's win over Indiana.

Jok isn't going to give you 20 a game for a variety of reasons. 16-18 is where he will be at. He will flash here and there with 20-25 pt. nights, but he will be in the high teens in scoring avg.

I'd be willing to go 10-12 points on Dale Jones if given more minutes. Thats a big IF though... he'll be competing with multiple forwards for minutes

I really hope Moss is better. It's always good when someone is beter. Watching Fleming this year, it looks like he has a high ceiling. The guy seemed like he could get a shot off or create for a teammate any time he wanted. He was just a little off which made for too many mistakes to trust him. The ability looked like it was there tho.

If Baer is one of the main guys next year, I doubt Iowa will be very good. Baer gave the team some energy this year, but I don't think he is a player other teams will worry about. I think Baer is a good player of the bench, but hopefully, Iowa will have better options. If Jok is back next year, I think he will do pretty good. I think Moss, Williams, Cook, Wagner, Uhl, Kriener, Pemsl, Jones (if healthy), Hutton, Fleming, and Bohannon have the potential to give other teams fits offensively. With the added athleticism next year, it should open things up for Jok. It will be interesting to see who the guys that will play next year.

97 points/ game, I can live with that.

I put the over/under at 19. Fran wants his best players taking shots anytime they're open. Jok will be the best player and unlike White and Uthoff he's more than willing to accommodate Fran on this request IMO. And I think we are going to pushing the tempo. Fran will have the personnel to play fast.

I'm just not sure on the Dale Jones situation. Does he play the full year? half the year? what are his minutes going to be like once he actually does play?

Leading scorers: Jok (18), Moss (11), Uhl (8), Cook (8), Williams (7), Wagner (5), Jones (5)

Edit: I forgot about Williams and I think Jok might not improve much next year

I think 12 for Uhl is very optimistic. I like him and believe ha has a bright future, but 8-9 sounds more reasonable.

I have no doubt, after reading this board the last couple of weeks, that next years team will be better than this years. Losing Gesell will help since he isn't any good and can't finish at the rim. Uthoff is playing awful and is afraid to shoot in the last minutes of the game so it will be good to get rid of him. Outside of rebounding Woodbury won't be a big loss. Clemmons seems to get a free pass so we will miss him I guess. So besides being a top ten team next year, how many wins do you think Iowa will have? 25-30?
