Next Hawkeye to be drafted?

I tend to agree we probably don't have a future NBA player on the roster. Pretty difficult to make predictions on some (some) 18 year olds, though.

How many people do you think, three or four years ago, were saying Wesley Johnson and Gordon Hayward would be top 10 NBA picks?

And remember, we're talking about possible NBA 2nd round picks here on the roster, not top 10 picks.

How many people thought Ryan Bowen or JR Koch or Les Jepsen would be second round NBA picks when they were 18 years old?

Not unrealistic to think one of the kids on the current roster could be a second round pick one day.

You could say the exact same thing about every freshman in the country then. Iowa is not the only team with freshman tearing up summer leagues.

Hayward and Johnson both had NBA height and length working for them. The NBA is all about measurables now and Iowa doesn't really have any guys that are tall and long enough or have that elite athleticism required to be drafted. Guys like Jon Scheyer and Manny Harris were both extremely good college basketball players and didn't get picked. I would be absolutely shocked if anyone from this team gets selected.

Anyone want to add or update a guess/answer?

Jok was the number 1 player in his class and was held out of competition for much of his freshman year because Fran was worried about 2014-2015. He got some good PT against Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament and showed why he was the number 1 player in his class. Gonna be hard to keep him on the bench next year and he'll likely declare. Probably not a lottery pick at this point, but likely a mid first rounder.

If this were 1984 he'd be looking at the Top 5 as some have correctly labeled his game "Jordanesque". The early entries and foreign contingent have really watered down the draft and it's hurt the likely 2 and done guys like Jok's draft position.

Not flaming, but f Jok's name is being thrown around as a 2 and done player it won't matter how many early entries or foreigners declare. Sorry, but I've seen nothing out of Jok that makes me think he's a 2 and out guy. Hopefully he's playing anywhere professionally in 3 more years, but to say he's a draft pick at this point in his career is a stretch IMO.

Jok had started to show flashes...and that UT game makes me believe he is the most naturally talented player on this team.

He showed some flashes of brilliant basketball ability, but also flashes of really bad basketball sense. He needs to learn much more about the team aspects of the game. That is why he didn't stay in for the very end of the game.

Marble will be drafted in the second round. Guaranteed.

I wouldn't guarantee it, but I agree it is likely. Marble is very, very young for a graduating senior, and has positional versatility and developed an ability to shoot in different situations. Where he goes is really determined by how much teams think he has yet to grow, and what kind of defensive ability he shows against professional guards.

I would also like it very much if he got drafted ahead of Deandre Kane, who incidentally, is over 4 years older than Marble.

I can think of four/five Hawkeyes recruited to the NBA that played on Championship teams and were a large part of that success. Don Nelson, Downtown Freddy Brown, John Johnson, Kevin Gamble and BJ Armstrong.....

Devyn will be drafted, not in the first round, but drafted and has a chance to make it.....

Heard that Deandre is a Mormon and did missionary work in Africa for four years, T.....

Kevin Gamble never won an NBA championship. He played on Celtic teams with Bird, McHale, and Parish, but never won a title with them.

Still played with some good company. Thank you for the correction, T......

Appreciate it.....

In December 1988, one of those Hall of Famers, Larry Bird was injured. Gamble was called up from the CBA and was signed the remainder of the season. Gamble played sparingly the first few months after signing his contract (not playing in 17 games), however his playing time picked up at the end of the season, with Gamble scoring at least 15 points in the final six games and hitting a season-high with 31 in the regular season finale. Gamble played in one playoff game before going down with an injury; the Celtics were swept by the Detroit Pistons in the first round.

Gamble played in 71 games the following season, 1989–1990, averaging 5.1 points in 13.9 minutes-per-game.
After seeing spot duty for two seasons, Gamble assumed a major role with Boston in 1990–91. Gamble played in every game, including 76 starts, and averaged 15.6 points (fourth on the team, behind Bird, Reggie Lewis and Kevin McHale) in 33 minutes per game and helped the Celtics to a 56–26 record and a return to first place in the Atlantic Division. His 58.7% shooting percentage was third-best in the NBA. He also placed second to Scott Skiles of Orlando in the voting for the NBA Most Improved Player Award, the closest finish in the history of the award, with a winning margin of four votes.

Starting with Bird and McHale is not all that shabby, and even perhaps a small claim to fame for a former Hawkeye.....

Marble wasn't invited to the nba draft combine. Possible that he gets drafted but it appears to be a long shot.

I honestly don't see Marble getting drafted. While he is versatile and has some length, he lacks ideal lateral quickness to defend at the NBA level. Without being a sharpshooter, I don't see him lasting long if he does get drafted and or signed. His shot creating ability was much improved but came at the expense of shorter defenders guarding him. I hope I'm wrong because the Hawks need more than Reggie Evans to showcase in the NBA.

If Marble gets drafted, he will be the next hawkeye drafted. I guess we will have to wait and see. I can see him going somewhere in the second round.
